Hello!

Is there height and weight standards they are looking for during the medical exam? Because for me, I have a lot of muscle and if I were to do a Body Mass Index, I would pass with 20-25% fat.

Yes - there is a height vs weight table for both genders. I do not recall if they specifically measure body fat in intial DoDMERB?

Here is an example from USNA that I just found; not sure if it is most recent but should be representative.

Dont go by me, but everything I have read on this forum says that while they have standards based on height and weight they do take into consideration that someone who is heavily muscled could be heavier than the standard.

They do measure in DodMerb. If you are outside the limits you will receive a letter stating that and will likely be given an opportunity to lose weight and make weight or tape by a date determined by USMA. If you do not make it, you can and likely will not be considered for an appointment. The standards are strict and archaic, but if you set your mind to it you can do it. My DD did and she is now at CBT and well under the limit.

What did your DD do to lose the unneeded weight?

She worked out at a gym 6 days/week for 1 hour per day and with a trainer 3 days for about 7 weeks before R day. She also followed a very strict vegan diet for 3 weeks then slowly added back in proteins and carbs. Absolutely no sugar the first 5 weeks! It was hard but she did it and looked & felt amazing and was in the best shape of her life.

DS is a football lineman. 6'2, was 235 pounds. He switched to high rep, low weight exercises, running M/W/F mornings and a fitness class at school on T/Th notnings. Every weeknight he does a routine of pull-ups to failure, pushups to failure, situps to failure, 3 minute break and back at it all to failure. Dietary he's eating paleo except for oatmeal for some breakfasts.

He has lost down to 210 and just hit 19% body fat in 5 months. About a pound a week or so.

So much of his bulk is muscle, even with stopping power lifting. His 17" biceps are crazy. Lol
