Hello all,

I was wondering if the following was acceptable. The packing list mentions "18 pairs of plain white socks with NO visible logos". I found difficulty finding such socks. I bought following ones below. Would they be acceptable?

For the running shoes, it states that it may not have "flourescent soles or laces". Would this red violate that?

Thank you for your time!

You are fine with both of these. They understand that good fitting shoes are important and will not care if they have color on them. These are pretty tame.

The colored part and logo on the socks will be hidden by the shoes, so it will not be visible.

Other than stacking neatly all the clothing items for transport to VMI, is there any reason to fold them since I assume we will be quickly told the proper way to fold all the clothing for storage in our rooms?

Nope, cadre will show you how to do it properly. When you get to your room you will have to quickly empty everything into the wall locker and take the suitcase to the trunk room. Later you will fix it all.

Do Rats have access tothe trunk room? For example, if I have extra items than the minimum can I retrieve them when needed?

You will only be able to keep certain things in your room when you move it at matriculation and cadre will tell you what you can have. They will take you down to the trunk room after moving things in your room. Eventually you will be able to retrieve items from the trunk room as they are allowed by cadre. The trunk room has certain times you can access items and you will figure that process out when you get there.

I would advise that you stick to the packing list. If you need extra items later on you can always arrange for a family member to send things. Best to bring what is on the list and follow cadre instructions.

Thank you Dadof2. Not planning to add to the list, just wondering if the list says bring a minimum of six towels or 18 pairs of socks and I bring eight or 21, can I put the extra in storage and have access when I may need them.

As Dadof2 said, Cadre will tell you what stays and what goes to the trunk room. When my son was a rat if it plugged in it went to the trunk room for hell week - laptop, phone, fan, lamp etc. I heard last year they were allowed one fan per room during hell week. Can't confirm this. That said, you will be guided in every step.

My advice would be to stick to the list. Pay close attention to cadre, show up in great shape ( the less taxing on you the physical portion the more energy you have for the rest. Run hills, then run more hills.

I would stick to the list. Your family can bring extra Parents Weekend if you need them. Mine was fine with the requested amount. VMI is a well run machine, trust the list and the system.

Agree. Stick to the list.

Lots of questions about the items and qty's on the list if you search past posts, but like turtlerunnernc, my DS took the amount of everything on the list and was fine. Not only is the list amount fine and you should follow it, you should follow all instructions closely. You don't want to draw attention to yourself by doing something different.

Good advice- just bring what they tell you and by Parent's weekend you will have figured out what else you can have/ need. One of the highlights of Parent's Weekend is the obligatory trip to Walmart in Lexington. All weekend long you will see Rats and Parents wandering the aisles of what is a very very nice and well stocked 24 hour Walmart- grabbing permissable items that will make Rat life a little more tolerable.:) Stuff in the trunk room might as well be at home, because a Rat will have really really limited access to it till just before furlough.
