I heard that some are having problems with getting their laundry back. Is it just delayed due to delivery backed up?

This happens. The reason doesn't really matter. What matters is how the cadet handles the problem. Ideally the cadet will use it as a learning experience and won't be overly bothered by this as this kind of problem happens all the time in the army. Best to learn flexibility now.

Good Point. This can turn into a learning experience for the Cadet. The challenge to learn how to improvise; for some the first time to ever wash their own clothes in a sink/shower(kind of laughing about that) and to step up to solve a problem. Guessing my real concern is, after spending X amount $$$, checking to see if the reason is lost, destroyed [emoji15]and therefore don't expect it back. Hoping all will eventually get the delayed/missing laundry back.

When I was there, we would get our laundry back but it would have holes in it. We always joked they stirred the laundry with pitchforks. No worries; we figured it out back then and they will figure it out now.

My son did have to hand wash some of his clothing during beast and yes, it was a first for him.

The academic and military programs at USMA have made great strides over the years. I can honestly say that these aspects are much better than when I was there. There will be irritations and the best way to deal with them is to suck it up, understand it's beyond your control, and be thankful to be at the best academic and military institution on the planet.

As an old grad there are things that are embarrassing to see at West Point today and one of them is laundry (don't get me started on the mess hall) - all driven by budget cuts. The complaints I had about the laundry service are minor compared to the substandard service they get today. I NEVER washed clothes in the sink during the entire four years and that is common practice today. But the salt in the wound is that cadets PAY for this service with a monthly deduction from their paychecks.

Assuming the problem is that laundry is delayed, they wont have anything to wash except for what was left

My NROTC program sent me to the equator for a month with one shirt. in the morning the shirt was solid as a rock, but within an hour, it hung on me like a wet blanket.

Many cadets (after beast) choose to do their own laundry in the machines in the barracks. The less domestic ones have it picked up and then dropped off by the place in town.

My son does his own laundry because the laundry service has lost too much. He had to use the laundry service at Buckner a couple weeks ago though, and prayed it would all come back. His prayers fell on deaf ears though. He was ticked off big time. He said he has never used laundry service without missing several items.

Just use the laundry service in town. It is a bit pricey but they do deliver better results. If there is a problem that money can solve then that isn't a problem, right?

Mine uses the machines in the barracks also. A great option except they have to pay for it. I didn't know about the laundry service in town - I'll have to mention it. I don't mind paying for it, but paying twice because the USMA service can't get it right is annoying.

The laundry service lost some of my clothes over the summer. Best advice is to have your cadet take their laundry slip to the office in Washington Hall Basement during REORG week to file a claim.

What is the name of the laundry service in town? Disappointed at something as simple as laundry is/can be disrespected to a/future soldier...but not make the headlines, Does history not say?....something as simple as laundry can make a difference, it's not complex as the popular headlines as to what helps a new soldier. I would rather a new soldier focus more on how to pass/improve on the range to protect him and us than when will I get my laundry in a training situation. Thanks for helping.

Thanks for the business card. I'm going to make sure my DD at least knows about this service.

There are actually a couple services in town. Be prepared though; they are kind of expensive for the kids.

^^^ Maplerock - that's until you've paid $$$ to replace lost uniforms (plebes don't make enough $$ to replace items that somehow never make it back), boiled synthetic compression shorts that have lost all stretch and only sag, and grey anything that was once white ... then if your kid wants to send it out and (as an upper class cadet) pay for it, by all means, let those rotors whirrrrrrr and send them the card ..... ;)
