does anyone know when The Citadel will start sending out acceptance letters for those entering in the fall 2018? Or how they notify, such as email, regular mail, or if there is a change in the online status?

The Citadel is on a rolling admissions - so as soon as you have completed all the required steps for Admissions to consider you application, you will receive an answer. The Admissions Office always sends a letter from the Director of Admissions enclosed in a decision packet for provisional acceptances. Denies receive just a letter from the Director. Those receiving provisional acceptance based on academic record must still meet all other requirements for final acceptance (e.g. Medical etc) and secure their place with a deposit.

All required application information was submitted 02 JUL 17, with not word as of today. So was wondering how long after the receive the documents are applicants notified 2 week, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, etc. Or is it best to contact the admissions office, and if so how long should we give them after receipt of the required documents?

Jeez, give 'em a break. At a normal civilian college, even with an early decision application, you're not going to hear until around the end of the year. Most colleges allow a pool of applications to build up so they can assess the group and determine where their "cutoff" lines are for the year. I can't definitely say this is how the Citadel works, but I would be surprised if they don't. I searched the web site to see if I could locate an admissions calendar, but could not. Someone with an account might be able to find such information, or could reach out to admissions to get a better idea. I'm not sure what your expectations should be, but I highly doubt it should be the expectations you apparently have.

Kinney,

Thanks for the info. I had not realized the normal timeline. I had read (either on this forum or another) that turn around was more or less a month. Perhaps that was a special circumstance. In one of those post, it was stated that they had applied for The Citadel and the ROTC Scholarship at the beginning of July; completed their ROTC Scholarship, and had their ROTC Interview scheduled at the end of August, and had already received their Citadel Acceptance. We are pretty much on the same schedule as that family. So that's why I thought there may have been some hold up, or we were in for bad news. Perhaps that was an isolated case/time line. Anyhow Thanks for the info.

The Admissions Office is busy preparing for Matriculation Day this weekend so application boards probably wont start until end of the month; once decisions are made you can expect word in 2-3 weeks. I believe they do offer early decision for some applicants but not sure of the criteria.

Not denying it might happen for some folks, but probably not the norm. Again, I'd reach out to admissions for a definitive answer... which I'm surprised is not available on their web site anyway. The other option is to simply be patient and perhaps look into it more at the end of September. All up to you though.

Thanks...I know that they are very busy for matriculation, so I will wait until the end of the month before we fly out for the ROTC Interview.

Andreb72 - Response directly from an Admissions Officer from The Citadel - "they are busy with matriculation this week." Reporting date for non-athletes is this Saturday. "after Matriculation Day the “laser” turns to new applicants." You mentioned you were waiting to "fly in" to do the ROTC interview for the scholarship. I am not certain of the process today, but for Army ROTC are there not scholarship interviews closer to your home so you don't have to delay? Or did the ROTC specify the interview must be at The Citadel? Thanks

Glen- In the Spring I was TDY at Ft. Jackson, and scheduled a meeting with the ROO at The Citadel, along with Admissions Office at the conclusion of the training, and flew my DS out for the P.A.W.S briefing so it was a one shot one kill day.

I brought unofficial transcripts, SAT scores, some JROTC awards, my DSs Reserve Contract (he joined the reserves over spring break) etc for the meeting. The staff there was extremely helpful in providing info for the ROTC Scholarship Portal, Minuteman Info, Citadel Application, etc. We had essays, recommendation letters, offical transcripts, awards, PT Test, Physical, blah blah, everything that was needed for both the ROTC Scholarship and The Citadel Application. So on the day that the applications opened, it was simply a matter of uploading everything and verifying that SAT scores were sent directly from the college board. The ROTC Scholarship verification was quick (we probably were the first packet in). On the advice (STRONGLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. We heard those words a lot) of The Citadel ROO, they requested that we interview there since it is our first Choice. What makes it convient is that my DS is at Basic Training at Ft. Jackson. When he graduates from BCT, 4 days later he has his ROTC Interview. We plan on hanging out in the area and prepping for the interview, sight-seeing etc.

Since the Interview is at the end of August, the scores for the interview will be loaded for 1st board consideration, which I believe all components have to been in the Army ROTC portal NLT than 17 Sept. I spoke with folks at Ft. Knox, and they are amending my DSs airline ticket to return home from Ft. Jackson. So basically its just costing airfare for me.

As I stated in an earlier post, I had read on a previous post that someone had basically the same timeline as us. So I was hoping to hear acceptance news prior to the interview. But that was just my own antsiness. We will stand down and not bug the Citadel Staff as we know that they are extremely busy matriculation, and all of the activities of the new year.

andreb72 - thanks for the insight. Best of luck to you and your son - sounds squared away!

No Prob, and Thanks. Even though we are 1,500 miles away from The Citadel, I have read so many stories about the disadvantages of not interviewing at your 1st or 2nd choice school that I thought it best to do so. Especially after the initial visit and informational briefing, and mention after mention (at that time) of "when you complete the ROTC Application you will come back here for the interview, right". And " when do you plan on interviewing here" It felt like the old school training method of the foot stomp, "this will be on your next test".....lol

They must have started immediately after Matriculation Day. Was contacted this past Tuesday by the Admissions Office. They were looking for our DD-214, since it was listed on application as having prior/currently military experience. Called them to let them know that my DS graduates Basic Training next Thursday, and we would have it at that time. They stated they would annotate that in the file, and that its not "a show stopper". So hopefully that a good sign. Then I started wondering, are there many freshman cadets at The Citadel that have already completed BCT and AIT, and are MOS Q by the time they start? or is that unusual?

DD had everything submitted by beginning of July 2016 for Class of 2021 and got her acceptance on September 17th...hope that helps give you an idea of when to expect something!

Teragram,
Thanks for the timeframe. Thats about what i thought based upon doing web searches. I did find only one instance of someone who said they received there letter the last of August. Most who submitted the week that the application portal was opened received theirs in early-mid Sept.

There are quite a few Cadets who are in the Reserve and National Guard components and also enrolled in ROTC at The Citadel. The important issue is making sure that if you are not locally reporting for monthly training, the Reservist or National Guard member work with the ROTC detachment at The Citadel and secure a local unit to attend drill. Also - if AIT has not been completed - make sure there is a tight agreement with the sponsoring unit on when this requirement will be met in the summer. I had an applicant in my local who was a senior in high school and had completed basic his summer of his junior year in HS, and had to complete AIT the summer of his senior year - which would have prevented him from entering The Citadel in mid-August when Knobs report for training. Coordination with local units and ROTC staff at The Citadel is critical. Good luck.

glen,

Thanks for the advice. What you state is consistent with what I have heard/read. The ROO, at The Citadel, has stated that upon acceptance he would work to to find a line and paragraph # at the local Charleston Reserve Unit that they have an affiliation with. We already have a completed and signed DD-4187 from the current home station unit, to be executed at the appropriate time, and will provide to the ROO once everything is all settled.

Timing is everything. We have already made contact with the folks at HRC, to get DS into one of the two specfic AIT classes that will allow him to start AIT and complete either 3 weeks or two weeks prior to Matriculation 2018.

My daughter submitted her application on 8-20-17 and her acceptance letter arrived on 8-29-17. Crazy fast I thought! If you have been waiting to hear for a long time I would double check that everything is marked complete. We made sure everything was sent the same day and notified references that a request had been sent to them.
