Apologies in advance if this is not permitted. Some friends from our religious community back in NJ are planning an aid trip to Puerto Rico, where several of the leaders are from. They were asking about the appropriate food they should take with them for personal consumption as they plan to be in areas without power, fire or water. Someone suggested MREs and I was wondering if anyone had contacts with the local ROTC units in the NJ/NY metro area that might be willing/able to donate any MREs for this purpose.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

OP: try to reach any staff position. If I was to guess, you could start with Operations, Admin, or Supply. The key is to get someone on the phone and work it up the chain of command.

If govt regs prevent donation to a private non-profit, look at buying surplus govt MREs from the govt storefront for DRMO:

Military/veterans on here will be familiar with DRMO, the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office, where all kinds of excess stuff goes and is sold or donated. I think DLA, Defense Logistics Agency, runs it, and military base offices might be called Disposal Services.
