I have just submitted the final part of my application and now the anxiousness and worry is setting in.
I was just wondering if anyone here could give me an idea of how likely I am to receive an appointment.CGA is by far my top choice.I want to join not only for the opportunities the Academy will offer me but because of what I’ll be able to for my country as a Coast Guard Officer!

Thank you all in advance, I understand nobody here can give me a “sure” answer as only the Coast Guard can do that but any feedback would greatly appreciated!

As you've said, no one can give you a clear yes or no but here's my take:

Academics: Your GPA and SAT scores are pretty solid. However, the lack of high level science and math courses is a little concerning. Have you taken Chemistry or Physics? What about Calculus? All of these are basic courses required at CGA during your first two years at the academy. If you don't have any experience with these courses, you could find yourself struggling. Admissions typically likes to see at least one or two of those courses as it can help in predicting a student's academic success as a cadet. Trigonometry is a good start.

Sports: You've held two leadership positions in two different sports which is fantastic...but, from your list, it looks like you only played each sport for two years. Is there a reason for that?

Leadership/Extracurriculars: You've got that going for you as a captain of your high school teams and the hostess job in some respect. The treasurer position, while not a VP or President position, should also help a little. You're well rounded in your participation in different activities which is also a plus.

Fitness: The PFE score is solid, just above the passing minimum of 200 that you're expected to get as a cadet. While you're waiting, keep working out and pushing yourself to score higher. Run practice PFEs when you get a chance. Trust me, as someone who did not focus on fitness as much a I should have, the higher you can score and the more fit you are, the easier the academy can be from a physical fitness standpoint.

All in all, I'd say you're about an average applicant in most areas. If you have not already, I highly recommend you request an interview with an Academy Admissions Partner in your local area. If you're as dedicated to the CG as you say, the interview gives you an opportunity to express topics not included in your application. The interviewer will write up an evaluation which may help your chances if you interview well.

Thank you for you quick reply!i seem to have left some aspects out.I have taken both chemistry and physics but have yet to take calculus which I know will bring me some trouble.I stopped playing sports after two years because I had to increase my hours at work due to financial issues within my family.

The fact that you have had to work because of financial issues at home is definitely something to add to your application.

I agree with Alaskan, definitely make sure you have included that in one of your essays or discuss it in your interview if you choose to have one. Your decision to drop extracurricular activities and help your family financially is a great example of your character and ability to deal with adverse situations. Good to see you've taken chemistry and physics! Calculus will not be a deal breaker, you would not be the first person to enter CGA without it. What major do you intend to pursue?

As of right now I am planning to pursue either the Government major or Management major.

Good choices...although I highly recommend, and am biased towards, the Government major. I've had many excellent opportunities because of the program and it only continues to grow under its Department Head, who is a fantastic officer and expert in many aspects of the curriculum.

I am leaning towards government and that is what I put as my intended major on my application. After looking into potential courses as well as the potential for amazing internships,it seems like the best fit for me!
