Hello, I am currently a senior in High School and next fall I will be attending a Community College before transferring over to a University. This university does have an ROTC program, but the community college does not. I am curious if there would be any issues applying for ROTC as a college junior. Is there someone in particular I should contact? Is there anything important or dire that I should know?

Any responses or questions are greatly appreciated.

The University my son attended had a couple of Community Colleges that fed into it. His Cadre held one class and some PT at each, but CC students also came to University campus for some requirements. I know many of my son's LLABs were at one of the CC's, because they had more space available than the University did. You should contact the University ROO to set everything up.

I'm just curious if there is any particular reason you will start at CC first? Can you apply now for ROTC scholarship, or do you need to improve your grades? It would seem like a better course of action to apply now, see if you can get a scholarship, then you may have more options available to you. Good look wherever your path leads.

My daughter has a friend at school, a MSIII who did her first two years at a community college and did not know about ROTC until part way through her time there. She reached out to her current University and they had her go to Basic Camp this summer to satisfy her MSI and MSII years.

You can join ROTC as a Junior but you will have to go to Basic Camp (ciet.futurearmyofficers.com) the Summer before in order to get Basic Course credit. You should talk to the ROO and the University you will be transferring to. You also may have the option to take the Freshman and Sophomore ROTC classes at the University while a student at the JUCO.
