My son is an AROTC 3 year AD winner. If available when do colleges usually upgrade to the 3.5 year. Is anyone hearing whether the budgets are allowing for that this year?

Don't know about the AROTC budget this year.

My DS received an upgrade notification in November and contracted in February of his freshman MS-I year back in 2015/2016 academic year.

Last year my son's school submitted upgrades in October, the cadets were notified by email during winter break (December)
Depending on your school they may use that money to offer MS1s 3yr scholarships rather than upgrades to 3.5 yr

DS was just told today that he was being put in for an upgrade to 3.5 years, and to expect to be notified by the end of the year.

Upgrades vary by ROTC BDEs. 2BDE typically does not give upgrades and uses the money to create more scholarships.

Thanks, my son is 3rd BDE, I know when he was looking the PMS talked about upgrades. He is having conversations with ROO and XO but I thought I would through it on here so he didn't become a pest and we could try to track what is going on out there.

This is what my son's school did he freshman year. One of his roommates was awarded a 3 year. I think last year they may have done both, seemed like they had a lot of campus based added last year for AROTC.

Did your son get the upgrade? My son was told he was being submitted also, but then the school wasn't awarded any. Sigh.

Last year it seemed like all Freshman that were submitted for an upgrade were awarded one. My daughter contracted in January her freshman year when she returned for second semester. My daughter is at a school in the 8th BDE, however, this year the freshman that were submitted did not get good news. So it definitely depends on the finances each year.
