Hi everyone. My son is pursuing an appointment and we were wondering where we can find out the current enrollment slots that are open by state. We have been all over the USMMA website as well as multiple Google searches with no luck. Can anyone point us in the right direction? We are from Louisiana.

Hi and thanks for the chart above. I've seen that before and knew that LA has 4 seats. Does that mean 4 seats every year or 4 seats total spread across all 4 years? Thanks in advance!

46 CFR 310.53 indicates that this is the distribution of each entering class.

Thank you both for your help.

I found this document that may be of help to others with similar questions.

to throw some more confusion at you, Texas, California, New York will all have more numbers than their allotment. A number of states will have less than their allotment. Some will have none. It is not a conspiracy, although Texas does deserve more ;) It is just numbers and where applicants land on the waiting list.

To go along with what @golfindad said above, there are at least double the amount of students here from Virginia than the allotted five slots. So it goes to show that if they like you and really want you they can find a slot from another state for you.

What no one in this thread has pointed out is that those aren't really enrollment numbers; they're appointment numbers. Relevant case law in the link below.

Interesting read. It I didn't realize the academy had so much latitude in selecting their appointees.
It's something the academies don't advertise and applies in some form to all service academies. Most people think that when a candidate in a district declines an offer of appointment that the offer must then go to the next qualified candidate in line in that district. Often it does, but the academies are not required to do so.

In the big picture it is fair since the highest qualified on the national list may be far more qualified than the highest on a geographically restricted list.

Yes, true. Arizona had 7 enter into class of 2021. I understand that is a higher than usual number for Arizona and it would be interesting to see the enrollment numbers per state, per class. Anyone know if this document exists?

the document does exist that indicates actual numbers. I saw one when DS was going through the process in the fall of 2015. But, I do not recall where it is or how I found it. I thought it may have been on this forum but I was unable to find it in the past. I know it is not much help, but I do recall seeing actual numbers somewhere on the net

Quick question. If someone was put on the National hold list in October - academically qualified and now is medically qualified and received a nomination - can you get offered an appointment ? Or would you still have to wait until late spring? Very confused about the national hold list- is it possible to come off it earlier?

You can come off the hold list at any time. The admissions process is rolling with admissions decisions coming continually through late spring. Currently there is a pause for Christmas break, but things will pick up again with more offers coming out after the first of the year. Once people start turning down admissions offers, you will see an uptick in the pace. Good luck.
