So here are DS's results from the CFA he took yesterday. He's trying to get in West Point or the Air Force Academy.
Basketball throw: 59'2"
Pull-ups: 11
Shuttle Run: 8.7
Sit-ups: 82
Push-Ups: 69
Mile: 7 minutes; 04 seconds.

While not his best that he could do with more practice, he is inclined to submit the results and see what happens. He has a fairly strong file (4.17 QPA with AP and honors classes; 3 year letter winner for football - team captain this year; lots of community service work; he does have a part-time job as well which has limited his extracurricular activities substantially. 1380 SAT but the writing part was only 18/24 which is his weakest area -- trying to write an essay in the format that those scorers are looking for. He has had 2 interviews with the Senators so far and will have his interview with the congressman at the beginning of December. PA is a very competitive state however as far as the nominations go. If he doesn't get in this year, he has decided to attend an university where he will take do the ROTC program and reapply next year.

Thanks for your input!

Honest opinion - subpar basketball toss and mile run, better than most on pull-ups sit-ups and pushups. It’s not an attention getting CFA, but from what I’ve seen and heard it won’t hurt him either as long as they like the rest of his profile. I’d tell him to bust his ass for another month and post his best ever CFA in mid December just ahead of when the admissions folks start looking at who got nominations.

I took my CFA last month and my scores were the following as best I remember:
BB throw:56
Pull ups: 2
Push ups: 70
Sit ups: 90
Shuttle run: 10.0 secs
Mile: 7 min 9 secs

I passed it and as you can see they are nowhere near stellar and worse than your DS's, so I'm certain he'll pass. But my academics were very good (5.99/6.0 WGPA, 33 ACT, AP classes, etc.) so I'm not sure if they had anything to do with it. I hope this helped!

The first CFA looks fine. And your stats are good enough. If everything else are stellar and you get the nomination, you look strong for an Appointment. Just remember there are many others in line looking just as good as you and even better. Stay positive and dedicated.

However, if the second CFA is not a woman, you need to raise your pull ups to Academy Average. If you're a woman, you look just fine.

Good luck to both.
