My DS has his interview with his MOC Committee on Saturday. He was informed that there are 6 total interviews scheduled. MOC has two spots at USMA open this year. My question is does the MOC submit one slate of 6 (assuming they are all seeking a nomination to USMA) or 2 separate slates of 3 or any combination thereof?

Your MOC can submit anyway way that he chooses based on his openings. For each opening or slate, he can submit 1 name or all 6. He can also identify a principal with ranked alternates, principal with unranked alternates or competitive for each opening.

I would caution against assuming that their are only six individuals competing for the two openings. It is likely that he may have out of area college applicants, prep school candidates, etc.

A slate [1 seat] is 10. There are not always 10 applicants per seat. Last year MOC had 2 seats for Navy and 17 applicants.

MOC website says they send in slates unranked.

Where did you find this on the website?

It is in an FAQ page. Not all MOC will necessarily have the same information on their website.

If you google the names of some MOCs you might find a presentation of how they've done things in the past or information on how they slate candidates. I don't know how common this is but I found out that one of my MOCS sends in a competative slate for each set and lets the Academies decide by googling his process online.

While the nuances of the nomination processes are interesting and there is value in being an informed consumer, my counsel is to guide applicants to focus their limited time and energy into those things that they have control over (e.g., completing applications per established timelines, current courses, staying in shape, staying out of trouble, Plan B, Plan C).

In retrospect, I probably added undue stress to my DS's application process from what-ifs and trying to speculate what may being going on in various "behind the curtain" processes.

Plus it can drive a person bonkers....and NONE of it matters in the end.

last year our three MOC announced in early to mid January their 3 lists of 10 appointees for usma. four or five on each list were on all 3 lists. the MOC then delegated the official appointments to the USMA regional committee. the MOC did not rank the candidates. the number 2 candidate for the district had a stalled DODMERB, and that appointment wasg not returned to the district.

Good luck on Saturday. bring the suit, the smile, and the straight back. and the ready handshake. and remember the army navy game next week - that;s always a good topic for discussion!
