Our family really enjoy watching "Master and Commander" this weekend. It came out a couple of years ago. I think that it is worth seeing as it accurately depicts naval warfare in the early 19th century.

ya it was alright, but i'm not a big fan. give me more modern action like terminator and star trek, now those were good movies.

Just saw the new Star Trek yesterday, and thought it was AMAZING!

I never saw "Master and Commander..." I think I might rent it today.

Taken is an awesome movie on DVD now...
Transformers 2 is gonna rock.

If you found the movie interesting, you would find the book about the naval officer its loosely based upon, Admiral Thomas Cochrane, 10th Lord Dundonald, and his "escapades" whilst the "Master and Commander" of HMS Speedy, fascinating!

It will simply blow your mind! And his actions after that...amazing!

He's widely believed to be the "foundation character" for:

a. Horatio Hornblower
b. Jack Aubrey
c. Nicholas Ramage
d. Richard Bolitho

All are widely read "Napoleonic era" naval series'.

Just finished reading Book #7 of Patrick O'Brian's "Aubrey and Maturin" series (19 books in all, only 12 more to go!), which the movie was based on.

WONDERFUL reads, and O'Brian's command of the english language makes you feel ashamed for how far the written word has fallen.

And you think BCT is tough? A cake walk compared to the life of a sailor during the Napoleonic years. I got p.o.'d when I couldn't get e-mail for a day when deployed; they were gone for years at a time! Gives you a real appreciation for a tough deployment must have been like.

One thumb, enthusiatically up! :thumb:

oh, come ON!
Star Trek was ok, but the whole idea of their cadets getting promoted for yelling and screaming at their superior officers kind of conflicts for me. Even if it is a typical star trek thing.
I also fall into step with one of my brother's complaints:
"So, we have this super-awesome enormous battleship with MIRV's and a gun that shoots into planets' cores, along with some instant black holes, just add vacuum."
"Really? What ship is this?"
"Uh....a mining ship..."
I thought they could do better. And early Star Trek or no early Star Trek, the Borg are the coolest thing about that franchise.

There's a Horatio Hornblower series with the guy who played Mr. Fantastic in Fantastic 4 (of course it's pretty old but it's the same actor); it's really good.

Heard Transformers has more A-10s! Oh, and apparently the girl in Transformers made about $140,000 for the first one.

She's making $10 million in this one.

Have read them all. Patric O'Brian's series of books have to be the best after Hornblower Series. "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" as they used to say. The way things are going now we will soon be the BORG.

2 words... Midnight Release.
Lol. Right! I was thinking along those lines too. Although I hardly ever go to the movies, it'd be kinda nice to see this last one before Basic. Not the best way to get a good nights sleep before traveling though.

I heard it was coming out on the 26th as well, and was bummed. It was great to find out about the new release date.

I'm sleeping on the plane... if I can.
