My DD is a USNA candidate this year. She has completed most of the process (2 nominations, medical, application). She is still working on improving her CFA scores before submitting sometime later this month but definitely before the 1/31 deadline. Unfortunately she inherited slow running from me!

My question is - she had a phone interview with our local Blue Gold Officer in August but has yet to meet with him face to face. Is it too late to complete that now? FYI - her fall semester has been crazy with school and extra-curricula activities.

I believe as long as everything is done by January 31st that's fine - so definitely not too late for the BGO meeting. Though my DS never met his BGO in person due to distance - all was done via phone/Skype.

2 nominations and no CFA uploaded yet? I have never heard of that. Congrats to her!

BGO interviews can be done until Jan. 31 (and USNA will allow us a tiny bit of a grace period after that to get them done and submitted). If it isn't done, USNA will still review the record (i.e., the candidate isn't "punished" for the BGO's "failure"). However, the candidate should make every effort to get the interview done in time -- including checking in with the BGO well in advance.

What is not nice is for a candidate to submit almost all of his/her packet the very last week in January (i.e., go from 10% complete to 100% complete in the final week) and then demand the BGO get the interview done that week. [Not suggesting the OP's DD is doing this just making a general comment b/c I've had it happen.]

MOC noms have nothing to do with the CFA and completing the CFA is not a pre-requisite for any nomination. The CFA is not due until Jan. 31, the same date MOC nom slates are due. Of course, you can't receive an appointment until you pass your CFA.

For the OP's DD . . . if she's not done so, suggest she talk to the school track coach to get some tips on running. People assume that we all know how to run. We do as a general matter, but good technique can really help as can a training regimen. Just going out and running every day will not result in the same improvement as following a program designed by an "expert." There is still nearly 2 months -- plenty of time.

+1 -- I just sent my remaining candidates this reminder the other day. If you wait until the end of January, and your BGO is traveling, you have a problem.

For OP -- not uncommon for BGO to wait until your application (including CFA) is substantially complete before trying to arrange an interview. It couldn't hurt for DD to reach out to the BGO, explain she is still preparing for CFA but ask to get the Interview done.
