About how long after your nomination interviews will you know if you got the congressional nomination?

Google the name of your MOC and academy nominations. What hopefully shows up is an article where the MOC has released the service academy slate. The date of the article should be a good estimate of when the names will be released. DS heard from the congressman around Christmas and heard from the senator the first week of January, but each office is different.

Only sure thing is deadline for all noms is Jan 31.
But yes - check Google for 'your MOC 2016 [or 2015] service academy nominations' etc etc; there may be a press release.
Of course some don't do this until May when appointments are accepted and finalized.

I was appointed to the class of 2021, and I will tell you I heard nothing for weeks from anyone. Don’t worry if it takes a while, you’ll hear in time. If you receive a nomination, you’ll most likely receive notice by mail

You can check your portal page as well. My DS just had his interview with his local Congressman last weekend. He has not heard anything from their office yet but when he checked his portal today, he informed me that he can see his appointment has bee posted there.

Correction: "You can check your portal page as well. My DS just had his interview with his local Congressman last weekend. He has not heard anything from their office yet but when he checked his portal today, he informed me that he can see his Nomination (not appointment) has been posted there." He has not received an appointment yet.

Our DS said he received a call from his congressman's office Monday, and then his portal updated to reflect the nomination.

DS happened upon his as well....hasn't been checking his portal as everything is complete and he is waiting for nom's (and trying to chill out and not obsess over the waiting...). Figured that he would be notified from the nom sources. Checked yesterday and to everyone's surprise, he has TWO nomination. One has been there a week! We aren't sure who they are from. Waiting to hear. A question: you say 'appointment'. Do you mean that an actual appointment will appear as well? Without potentially any other notification?

I have also received my nomination from my congressman (November 27 to be exact). However, it is taking a while for USAFA to update it.

There are so many factors that enter into the whole process but for our applicant he interviewed on 12/2 and the nomination was listed on his portal on 12/12...we were pleasantly surprised with how quickly the process moved.

In Florida, most notifications went out between 3 and 5 weeks after the interviews.

In the past, when Appointments are made, email notifications are sent (typically early in the morning) telling Applicants to check their Portal for an update which will have their Appointment listed there. Remember that "most" Appointments don't occur until March.

Please stop!

I know it is difficult, but you haven't missed your notification if you haven't heard by now. Or in a week, or even a month.

Work on your PlanB. Go watch the Steelers fry the Patriots. Go skiing. Ice skating. Biking, hiking, spelunking. Just don't obsess about the nomination, the appointment, the LOA, etc.

LIVE YOUR LIFE.

Now, go bake some cookies.

My DD got a call today from our Senator's office saying she is a principle nominee to USAFA. Does anyone know if this improves her chance of getting in to USAFA vs getting a Presidential/Congressional Nom or are all noms the same? Does she still try to get a Congressional nom as well? Thx much

Your DD should get as many nominations as possible.

However, at least with USAFA, a principal nomination is like a "golden ticket". USAFA honors the MOC's wishes with principal nominees, by law, unless things have changed in the past few months. As long as she is and remains medically, physically and academically qualified, she should receive an appointment.

A couple of years ago, my DD received a principal nom from our Congresswoman as well as a regular nom from one of our Senators. She is in the class of 2020.

Just for reference, and possibly argument's sake...

NOMINATION METHODS

This attachment provides information on the different methods to nominate candidates for appointment to the Academy.

A3.1. Nomination methods to fill quota vacancies in the Vice-Presidential, congressional, and US Possessions Categories follow:

A3.1.1. The Principal Numbered-Alternate Method.

The nominating authority indicates his or her personal preference by designating a principal nominee and numbering up to nine alternate nominees in order of preference. HQ USAFA/RRS must offer the appointment to the first fully qualified nominee. The order of preference must be honored; however, HQ USAFA/RRS may offer appointments in any sequence.

A3.1.2. The Principal Competitive-Alternate Method.

The nominating authority designates his or her principal nominee and up to nine other nominees. HQ USAFA/RRS evaluates and ranks nominees by order-of-merit. If the principal nominee is fully qualified, HQ USAFA/RRS will offer this individual the appointment; otherwise, HQ USAFA/RRS will offer the appointment to the fully qualified alternate nominee ranked the highest.

Informative read.

I am in the same boat. I had my congressional interview almost 3 weeks ago and still have not heard anything yet. It is really stressing me out! I feel like I am constantly checking my email, hoping for any news. Waiting is the hardest part!
