Missing BGO interview write up and college transcript

My DS is the probably rare college sophomore re-applicant. He has submitted his college transcript via his college three times since early October, the last two times by Fed Ex so he knows the transcripts were received mid November and mid December, yet nothing is posted. He met with his BGO early December and his portal still says he's missing his BGO interview. He has heard that all of the college re-applicants are evaluated in January once semester grades are in. How worried should he be that these two things still seem to be missing? He's checked in with his admissions counselor who told him in November that things were pretty backed up and he should just wait. Any advice as to what he should do? Should he sit tight?

The Candidate Information System ("Portal") should update, especially since you have proof that the transcript got there.
REGARDLESS of that, when he EMails his Admissions Counselor (about the BGO interview update) , he should ask if they can check on his transcript update as well.

If it comes down to the only thing that's missing is the BGO interview, the BGO will get a reminder/nastygram from USNA to get off his/her behind and upload the data.
It took two months for my DS' BGO to upload his interview data. It wasn't a big deal then, because there was plenty of time left. With your DS, not so much.

Also waiting from November until now to EMail his admissions counselor is not being a pest, it's being diligent. His admissions counselor shouldn't be put out by the fact that he's just following up. Data sometimes gets lost or missed.

Is DS taking courses this semester? October seems early to send in a transcript unless the grading periods are done differently.

Outside that, the holiday period is just ending (half of December is kind of a wash), Thanksgiving was in November, and there have been snow days (limited working hours) the past few days on the Yard. I am certain the admissions counselor will work with DS if he has done his due diligence. Every transcript has to get scanned into the system -- I believe the typical turnaround time is 2-4 weeks -- depending on when DS contacted admissions in November, still might be towards the end of that window. I would agree to follow-up next week.

I would recommend DS follow up with the BGO, and politely check on status. If no response, escalate to Area Coordinator or Admissions Officer. No excuse, but some BGO's do take their time, write a draft, ponder, edit, then submit. I'm the opposite -- I try to write up the interview the same day, sleep on it, review and file the next day.

He sent his transcript in in October because he is a sophomore now, so he already had a full year of good college grades.

USNA doesn't review records of college students until first semester grades are in for all candidates, which typically means those records aren't reviewed until late Jan/early Feb. I suspect USNA is awaiting your transcript from first semester of THIS most recent semester and your portal may not be updated until those grades are received. They are obviously important to the admissions decision.

As for the BGO interview, agree with OldNavy BGO's sound advice.

If DS reapplied as a freshman and sent the first semester in last year, I’d recommend sending in two new semesters (past spring and this fall), especially if they are challenging courses and mimic a MIDN’s schedule. If this semester’s grades are less than stellar, I can understand why DS might not want to send....but that could also lead to questions by the Admissions counselor or Admissions board. I’m sure USNA would highly encourage having this past semester to review, but not sure if it’s an actual requirement...the only thing academically “new” would be one additional semester. The Admissions counselor could clarify if the most recent transcript is required (for college candidates, USNA isn’t going to turndown a most recent transcript, if sent preemptively).

This is his first time reapplying. His grades last year were great and this semester are great (3.95 for 20 credits). The grades he Fed Exed in mid December included his semester grades for this year. He just can't figure out why he keeps sending transcripts and none get in the system. ;-)

I somehow missed the mid December part in your initial post. I’d definitely give it towards mid to late January...it does take sometime to get processed/scanned...but I would have DS follow up if it isn’t in by the last week of January. Given the tight turnaround to send in college transcripts, if all other parts of the application (that DS is directly responsible for) are completed, the admissions office is likely to work with your DS on the transcript.
