Can anyone tell me the procedure of cell phones? I know that they cannot be used until AFTER Beast. BUT, once academics start, what is allowed? Are they allowed to take them into class and/or leave them turned on (silent of course). Or do they have to leave them outside the classroom? (secretly hoping for the latter). as you might of guessed I am a parent...

During beast they are taken and put in storage. Throughout the academic year, they are allowed in the room. I believe they are not allowed in classes. This is a good thing too because it would be a distraction.

it appears the original question was answered.....

Cadets are not allowed to have cell phones turned on in the classrooms. I personally know cadets who have left IM up on their computers during class -- so not having a cell phone does not necessarily end distractions. That said, with an average of 10-12 students in a class, it is awfully hard for the instructor not to notiee if you aren't paying attention! :shake:

THANK YOU Momof2cadets, that was more of the direct answer I was looking for.

And yes JCOLLINS the question was answered, but it was said by America's Finest that he Believes they are not allowed, he was not positive, he doesn't know first hand, he is still only a Candidate. Being a parent that has a child there already would know for sure, I would think. OR an actual cadet themselves.

Armyof1: Thank you for your comments.

The question I was answering was posted in #3 by swimmerguy. My answer pertains to that question.

In regard to the other question, which I had no intention of answering because I do not know the answer: when my cadet is awake I will ask him. Am fairly sure he shuts his phone off when he is in class, and then turns it back on after class. He likely keeps it in his pocket or backpack at all times. There are no random cell phone searches that I am aware of at WP.

the only place the cadets are allowed to use cell phones are in the barracks. they are not permitted to talk on them on campus in sight, in the library, in the academic buildings, in the mess hall. We have T-mobile and he gets coverage from his room, from Highland Falls and from NYC. I will tell you that my son does IM me from his computer more than he uses his cell. throughout the entire year there was hardly a day (after beast) that I did not "talk" to him at least once and usually more..

well I am glad to hear that djfrro, because right now all that my son does is text, including durning school time. He has cut back considerble since we threated him with eliminating texting from the cell plan. But, it is like second nature and I am not even sure he remembers how to even TALK on the phone. That is why I was really hoping that WP was not lenient at all with their cell phone policy. Break him of the awful habit!:unhappy: Thank You All for the information

GREAT reply armyofone...and I agree that one must be very cautious on these forums as to the source where they get their info & answers from, which at times can be frustrating to find amongst the static

very well stated and to the point response djfrro, between your reply and the one from momof2cadets, I would say the question from armyofone was answered completely...
no static here...thank you it is nice to see simple clear & concise replies that actually answered the question

America's Finest attended an overnight visit and shadowed a Plebe for two days this past April, my son was also at that same visit and had the same info directly from the plebe he shadowed and attended class with, AF was spot on.

That was my source :)

I said I believe out of habit. Sorry for the confusion.

NP - A'sF. I wasn't sure of your answer being a candidate and your saying "Believe" was what threw me. I do appreciate your quick response though:wink:. With everyone's replies my mind is at ease now - atleast about the phone. THANKS again ya'll.
