Hello all,
I am interested in attending High Point University if I receive an Army ROTC national scholarship, and i was curious how their detachment works. I know everything takes place at North Carolina A&M, which is about 20 minutes away from HPU. Would it be too much to attend this college and have to travel to another for their ROTC program? HPU is a great school and one of my top choices, but AROTC of course plays one of the biggest factors in the ultimate decision of where I should attend if I do receive the scholarship.

P.S. I did email North Carolina A&M with no response, will probably call within the next few weeks.

Cross town AROTC programs vary a lot in support and quality. However, if you are determined, you can do this.

Much of it depends on the number of cadets that attend the non-host school. If there are enough cadets at High Point, they will likely have their own morning PT on campus, the cadre will hold some classes held there etc. However there are many cadets that do great at managing their time and logistics to make the trip work. You just need to understand that there may be obstacles, but the program will usually work with you to help you succeed.

You really should speak to the ROO at North Carolina A&T as well as some current cadets at High Point to get the real inside scoop on AROTC life at HPU.

Good luck.

+1 to AROTC-dad. It's been a while since I've been in High Point but traffic should not be an issue like it is in some other places. I would assume folks share rides when they need to go to the host campus but that would be a good question to ask. Some units have vans to transport folks. You might be able to bike it. It would be a good idea to explore routes if/when you visit (and I always recommend a visit).

Thank you sir,
I have a visit planned for next month and I will try getting in contact with the ROO and some cadets to see if I can meet them.
