I wanted to know about how long after you submit your USAFA summer seminar application will it take to be accepted or denied? I know I should be patient but the suspense is literally killing me, and a rough estimate would help me a lot. Thanks

I am awaiting my DD's outcome as well. It looks like last year(based on thread searches here) that decisions started coming out around Feb 6th. So I would assume that the first week or so in February of this year is when to expect things.

If you are very competitive, you may hear from USAFA in 7-14 days. And if you come from an area where USAFA frequently lose candidates to other SAs and you have a very strong package, you maybe invited to compete for a full merit scholarship that offers round trip air ticket and program cost. About 150 applicants were invited to compete for the merit scholarship last year after being selected to the summer seminar. Among those who competed for the scholarship, little over 30 were selected for the full merit scholarship. You will have to send in CFA test score and strong high school transcript and additional essay why you deserve the scholarship (not exactly the question but the theme is there) so be prepared! Good luck class of 2023.

If the suspense is that bad waiting for a nod to SS, the app process to become a cadet might be too much for you. If you're just using hyperbole, then I would tell you there is no pattern to when approvals happen because students are selected for many different reasons. DD applied in December. Acceptance came in early Feb.

And so it begins! DS is a Class of 2023 hopeful, so thanks for the good luck wishes. SS is just the warm up, sort of speak. Gonna be a long and exciting year ahead.

You'll love the Air Force Campus! But you'll hate the altitude. With the altitude, factor in losing 15-25% of your stamina in most physical activities. You can lose about 30 seconds in your running time. Drink a lot of water, always. Otherwise, dehydration sets in real quick. Some might get head ache, that's a sign of dehydration and altitude sickness. For person like me having lived at ocean level all my life, I noticed it right away. If you're not used to high altitude, you'll be huffing and puffing even doing walking a mile or running up to 3rd floor. Adults, don't drink beer nor much coffee when doing outdoor walk in a very hot day, you'll get dehydrated real fast and the breathing becomes difficult. It is at 7,000+ feet elevation so air is thin. You will not be able to acclimate while there! Otherwise, Air Force Academy is extremely beautiful. My DS loved everything about the campus and very much enjoyed the summer seminar. Enjoy the campus tour, the summer seminar, parent dinner if you happen to follow your kids to tour Air Force Academy. Visit Garden of the Gods Park. It is spectacular! Oh yah, Cold Springs has excellent Sushi! Can you believe that, all the way in the Mountain top, Sushi! Denver has some of the best restaurants and exceelent food options. And I've been around some of the best cities in the world so that's a huge compliment. Enjoy the seminar and the Academy experience!

Do you know what criteria USAFA used to awarded summer scholarship? My GPA is not that high and my SAT barely broke 1200. I think I wrote an okay essay. Like many other applicants, I have earned varsity letters sports. I was baffled but honored and grateful to have received the scholarship. It can not be because I am from NJ which is very competitive state. The summer scholarship definitely motivating me to take the next steps of applying when the process kick off in July.

You are very fortunate! Congrats! Your district in NJ although very competitive may not enroll at USAFA when students receive appointments. Instead, it seems many go to USMA or USNA. So this is to incent you to apply and finish your apps and enroll. But for most candidates whom we met at the Air Force Academy, many had high SAT or ACT scores and the Academy liked your first essay with purpose statement. Your SAT may not be high now, but they expect you to take it again to pass 700+ on each sections so do retake. Your GPA not important because they really look at your high school rank. If not given, they will take from your SAT rank. So even better if you are at competitive schools. You should take your CFA with your PE Teacher, which is required. Get your run time within 6:30 - 7:00 if you can but do not exceed 8 minutes. Pull Ups, do between 12-18. Just try to hit everything within Air Force average which has the highest average among SAs.

They sent out to about 130 students. About 30 students will be awarded the scholarship that includes air fare and tuition. It's an honor to be offered and honor to get it! Congrats and wish you much success with the Air Force Academy!
