I think $1K is now $4k but if you have an ROTC scholarship then TAMU will always consider you as in-state so you can use Type 7.
DS has a Type 7, he is deciding between TAMU, Purdue and Michigan...TAMU seems to be no brainer but that just me
Not just you. For all but a few very rare scenarios, TAMU makes the most sense.
The difference between four years of in-state TAMU tuition and 4 years of out-of-state (OOS) tuition at Purdue and U-M is vast:
- Purdue OOS = additional $83,160
- U-M OOS = additional $149,064
I remember a time when a medical degree cost less than either of the above sums. And now we good citizens are being asked to spend a greater sum on ... an UNDERGRADUATE degree? This is insane.
It's hard to make a convincing case for spending $150k to go to U-M. Playing the prestige card - ie pointing to how great the U-M aero eng. program is, or how many U-M CS grads land software engineering jobs out of college at AAPL GOOG MS AMZN etc. - won't cut it.
What if DS decides against aero, or decides he doesn't want to look at screens all day and bang out code? Unless he decides he wants to work on Wall Street or go to law school, Poof! goes the U-M advantage.
Save your $$$ and run, not walk, to TAMU. If DS decides on grad school down the line, he'll have more savings to do so. He can always go to U-M or Purdue or GA Tech or wherever for a master's, MBA, PhD or medical degree.
