Hi All...My DS is CPR. MOC nom that I am almost certain is competitive. He has been cool as a cucumber throughout the process and remains so now. Maybe because his plan B is a solid list of civilian schools. I have supported him through this process in a way I am sure 99% of you have, rides, thoughts and prayers. If I attempted to write his essay I am positive he would have reviewed a TWE months ago. I lurk not because I want this more than him, it’s just that I have become completely intrigued by the process and wanted to learn more. Last night I scrolled back through this thread (page 40+-) and read a bunch of posts from class of 21 around April 15th. I was both heart broken and completely blown away with the grace and class so many of the young men and women exhibited in the face of adversity. Parents too. That being said I think It’s time for me to relax. Stop logging into the portal and visiting this site much less frequently. SAF is an amazing place filled with world class people and I hope I am part of it for years to come, but my DS’s appointment in God’s hands now. I wish all of you a speedy appointment.

I have intentionally not even asked my Son for his passwords and such to any of his Academy logins. I lurk here plenty entirely too much as is. [emoji23] I’m 110% supportive but at the end of the day...... it’s his dream not mine. I flew him to D.C. last Summer so he could visit USNA and see if it was even remotely close to something he wanted to pursue. He has been dreaming of this since 5th grade. He had an amazing host and guide and came home more convinced than ever. So now we join this crazy ride of applying. He is anxiously awaiting to hear back on the summer programs from all 3 Academies. Exciting times! Good luck to all of your Sons and Daughters!

First of all, I love that flag/baseball avatar. It’s been awhile since I’ve been on this forum. I am thankfully a USNA 2021 dad and my DS is doing great his plebe year. But I was once in your shoes. He applied to Navy,Army and AF summer programs as a junior. He did not get accepted to AF, but went to both USNA and WP. He actually liked them both. And applied to both. For class of 2020 btw. He got an appointment to WP but wait listed at USNA. Very few get appt from wait list USNA these days and he was not one of the few. In the end he decided he really wanted to be a naval officer so he declined WP and did plan B NROTC school and reapplied and accepted for class of 2021.

The reason I am really posting is that summer seminar, SLE, etc. is great to go to, but it was our experience it had little impact on admissions. My son obviously did not get an appointment first attempt even though went to SS. We now know many midshipmen who did not get into summer seminar but still received USNA appointments. So if the summer news is not what you hope, don’t give up hope.

I appreciate that reply. Can not wait to show this to him as I’ve said this multiple times but, hey, at the end of the day it’s still always nice to see/hear it from someone who has been through it. Again, very much appreciated.

Totally agree with Trigger, my son is currently a Plebe and did not get in to any SA summer seminars (USNA,WP orUSAF) He did receive appointments to USNA and WP and his CW visit helped him make the decision to attend USNA. Good luck to your son and tell him to keep his eyes on the goal.

Just a heads up, logging in to any USNA system using your DS's username and password is a HUGE no-no. Especially if he ends up with an appointment and then becomes a plebe, we've already seen a couple examples just this year of kids getting in big trouble for allowing their parents to do such...plus, the wind from the rotor wash is also not helpful to anyone involved.

REALLY! Thanks for the heads up. In the beginning my son used to call me at work after school let out, had a 1/2 hr or so before practice and he would say something like “can you log in real quick and tell me if my transcripts were posted? If not I want go talk to my counselor”. Does the USNA monitor who is logging into sight? If yes, I wish I had known this earlier. I was never more than his point guy helping him bang out the punch list. Man! Being a newbie to this process is stressful. Thanks again for looking out.
