Does anyone out there know what goes on inside Bancroft after inproccessing is completed? I know the oath of office ceremony is at 6 - but what happens in-between?

Mids are sent to their new companies and to their new rooms. They get some time to unpack, get sent down for their first meal in King Hall and get to meet some of the new people in their lives. They also get a chance to formally quit, and have to sign their oath of office papers with the company officer. It is not a fun day for the firsties.

formally quit? people would fly all the way out for iday just to say they quit? also is the first few days the validation tests?

No, validation tests will not happen on I Day. Don't worry, they will keep you busy enough.

Yes, people do fly out there and get all of the inprocessing taken care off then quit. If you decide to stick around once you arrive, I would recommend not making a fool of yourself. Don't be the guy with the sign on his forehead that says "Pick on me."

Yes, people sometimes quit quickly. A friend graduated in 79. A guy in his plebe class knew, from the moment he got there, for whatever reason, that he didn't want to be there. Said he hesitated on raising his hand for the oath. Was gone within 5 days. People sometimes make mistakes. Two categories of people who find out about their mistakes VERY quickly: (1) those who show up on I-day when they really don't want to be there, and (2) husbands.

well i'll probably find myself in that second category here in several years.

when i see videos of plebe summer they always mention its six weeks of intense physical training, do they add on the weeks after PPW? or is it really around eight weeks?

It's 7 weeks. After 2 or 3 you either get into the rhythm and tough it out or you get angry/depressed and want to quit. At that point you catch on to the repetitive nature of the schedule or get smart enough to look at the posted POD. The 8th week is like reform/move in to your ac year room/learn how to surf the internet with Websense added.

Websense? is that the blocker that restricts life? Cause having that in high school wasnt fun

Am I missing something here? I thought they don't have anything to unpack...

I assume the seventy to one hundred Lb. seabag they have been luging around.

Your first day is somewhat of a blur. You spend the first couple of hours in (well, in my day) Halsey doing the following: (1) checking in, (2) learning the basics of saluting, standing at attention & parade rest, left face, right face, etc., (3) picking up uniform items, (4) medical check, (5) a few things I've forgotten.

At some point, you get haircuts.

Then you head for Bancroft where you find your room. You are given instruction in how to fold things and how to put your Alpha Code on everything. You change into white works. You start putting away your gear -- folding in certain ways is easy once you've done it; not so easy the first time.

At some point you eat lunch. You fill out paperwork. You get instructions about what to do at the Oath of Office ceremony. You practice a bit more marching so you don't look like total idiots at the ceremony.

All of the above would take about 2 hrs for people used to being in the military. On I-Day, you're dealing with a bunch of civilians. Everything takes a while. :shake:

finally marching band has a point. i thought all the marching in high school would be for nothing
