Big wave...

Is there a big wave of appointments at some point for USCGA like there is for USAFA? (Everyone says there's a big wave in mid-February for USAFA.)

This waiting game for my DS is torturous. Watching grass grow and paint dry is way less stressful...
No as the CGA appointments are much less. They will be given out on a rolling basis until the end of RA. Candidate will be notified they are up for review and if very highly competitive will hear a result a few weeks later. Not hearing straight away is not a bad sign as there is still a chance to be selected until RA closes.

For USAFA, a contact previously involved with the academy explained to me that the USAFA goes through the applications and determines appointments in the preceding year. Then USAFA confirm the budget for the number appointments and release them in February (highly competitive USAFA candidates will already have been notified prior to this) So at that point 1000-1500 appointments will be released. Compare that to the fact the CGA only has around 200 appointments left to give out during RA and these are also shared with CGAS.

In around 6-8 weeks everyone will know their status.
The very strongest candidates based on the CGA admissions board will get an appointment shortly after they are reviewed. These are the appointments that are coming out now.
Non competitive candidates will be notified they are also out at this time
That leaves the rest of the candidates to be picked through for appointments. There is usually a bunch of appointments close to end of RA.

That's very helpful- thank you so much for taking the time for me! <3

Have you received the email that your application is going to go under review yet?

YES! He did get it the other day and it says within the next two weeks! EEEEEE!

We got that email on Jan 11th, still waiting to hear. DS applied the end of October. From my understanding of the input here, my DS is somewhere between highly competitive and non-competitive. So still in the ballgame, but likely plan B will be his future.

Isn't that everyone though: Between highly competitive and non-competitive? That's a lot of wiggle room, lol

True but I think that wiggle room is much smaller than a few months ago as we are getting down to the wire. Lots of appointments and rejections have occurred. Not sure what to think anymore. Just a parent trying to get any shred of info for DS.

Did you get anything from DoDMERT to start that process or is that something that is sent if your accepted? My DS contacted he AO but he has not replied back yet.

Yes we did get an email a couple of days after applying in October to start the physical/eye examination process. Recently was deemed "Qualified" by DODMERB a couple of weeks ago.

Did CGA request for him to conduct his DoDMERB yet? If so, he is considered "competitive," and I believe "qualified" from what I understand.

Yes, completed DODMERB and is "qualified".

The wait is killing me. I hope this big wave comes this week:(
As @Chuck20 said above, with rolling admissions I don't know that where will be a big wave. There wasn't with early admissions. If there is, it will likely be the final week when all admission, wait list, and rejection decisions are finalized.

I have been reading these posts for weeks now, empathizing with many, and like others, trying to “read the tea leaves”. Our daughter applied 11/5, received the same 1/11 email as many others, but no request for DoDMERB yet. That has us feeling a bit grim. Anyone else else still waiting with no denial, yet no request for physical either?

I got my email 2/12 with no denial or request for further information.
I am not 100% clear on the process, but as my understanding goes they do research candidates they are interested in. Hopefully, that is why it is taking longer for your DD.

I would check spam on email. The dodmerb stuff comes from a different address.

Your daughter filed her application on 11/5 and has never received info on a medical exam? Those requests were going out within 1-2 weeks of a filed application during the early admission cycle. Your daughter should call her AO and inquire as to whether she should have received it. It could have gone into spam, so look there as well. If her AO confirms there was no request for a medical exam, it is not a good sign. Always have a Plan B, and a Plan C, and a Plan D...
