USMA Waiver Deadline - When?

Hello,

I’m currently waiting on DoDMERB to decide whether to reject or grant the waiver request USMA sent out on January 23. I understand the importance of patience during the waiver process, but something has been burning in the back of my mind.

I read on my candidate portal that I should expect to wait 90-120 days for DoDMERB to make a decision. However, should the government suffer another crippling shutdown, a 120 day wait would put me in late May. I’m worried that by then it will be too late to accept an offer and/or all of the available slots will be filled.

Can someone please fill me in on when the waiver reception window for USMA closes? Also, are other candidates in a similar situation? Does being medically disqualified significantly lower your chances of admission? Words of advice and encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Whew! Great to hear. Maybe the reported 90-120 day waiting period is provided as an intentional moral boost when you receive your decision early (given that the waiver is granted of course)!
 
Last year my son's waiver from USMA took 57 days from the day he received notice of the DQ until he was formally notified that the waiver was approved.

While it probably doesn't feel like it, it is still early in the admissions timeline/cycle and you still have time. The fact that your file was submitted for waiver consideration means you are competitive and that you are still in the game. Hang in there and stay positive. Just make sure you have a solid plan B in case you don't get the waiver or the appointment. Good luck & Go Army!

1. Dodmerb doesn't reject or grant waiver requests. If Dodmerb determines you don't meet accession standards Dodmerb notifies USMA, and USMA decides whether they will consider you for a waiver, based on whether your application is competitive. Dodmerb doesn't decide who is considered for a waiver, whether a waiver is granted, and has no veto authority over a waiver granted by any of the service academies.
2. There won't be any more gov't shutdowns, as a 2 year budget was passed.
3. The medical side and the admission side are, theoretically, two separate things. The admissions department isn't supposed to know or consider what is happening on the medical side.
4. The Waiver authority for the USMA is the USMA. They know when the waiver deadline is, and will act accordingly.

And that reminds me.... what crippling shutdown? The last one was no worse than a couple of snow days.
 
right... as I said... what crippling shutdown... it was a nothing burger. But it's neither here nor their . We should get the thread back on track.
