NROTC - SWO Ship selection

It was really exciting watching all the Midshipman select their ships. I enjoyed watching so many of them from all over the country and watching their different reactions at each college.

Too funny he set up my wife. She asked where Little Creek was he told her is was an Island off the cost Asia. She did not give herself time to think about his response she just slipped into panic mom when will I ever see him phase. I called her and she was all spun up so I calmed her down and let her know that Little Creek was only a short flight away to VA. Mom is now happy, son is in some deep ...... with mom.
Yea me for once I’m not in the dog house.

Place Holder: Yes he is very much looking forward to working with the Marines.

If being a Div. O doesn't work out for him, he can always be a BT. Sounds like something you would have thunked up :)

Nice, I like that. I have instructed him that if given the chance at engineering once he give the order to clean the bilge that he should be the first one down there setting the example. He has been told by me to listen to his Sr NCO’s when he gets to his command.

Can anyone tell me how the midshipmen are given their rank to pick their ship and when are they given that ranking?

My son knew approximately where he was earlier this week (that approximation was off by 25 slots but he didn't find that out until an hour before his time slot) I only know that grade point is part of the equation, I don't know what else goes into it.

Basically everyone across the NROTC community is ranked against one another. This is a quantitative process including things like GPAs. PNS ranking within the battalion, etc. I don't know everything that goes in it. They go down the list in order, so the higher your rank the better chance of getting your first choice.

Bulge rat....nice, haven’t heard that in a long time. I thing BTC would agree with me when I say he is earning his “snipe” wings. Love it!

He will get a lot of respect if he is in there with his guys. That really goes a long way.
