Good morning all,

I am currently a ms2 on 2.5 year scholarship

Today, I took the apft and unfortunately failed the run. The thing is, is that I took an apft last week as a diagnostic and passed but due to my run being borderline, my OIC wanted me to take it again with a few other cadets. Today was rough as I have not failed an apft the entire school year. I had some lower back soreness going into the run, but still no excuse.

I know that this is my fault and my fault only, but I wanted to find out if my stipend or scholarship would be suspended as I have been receiving stipend pay and my $600 for books for the past month. I have not received my scholarship (tuition) as of yet.

I will be running my butt off for the next few weeks until the next diagnostic.

Thank you

You may get a few opinions here but to be honest, the best advice is to ask your Cadre how this effects you.

+1 Jcleppe.

I believe that the Cadre has the authority to make an exception, but is unlikely to do so, given the fact that you had plenty of time to prepare.
Obviously, your scholarship will not fund until you pass the APFT and pass DoDMERB.

Good for you for accepting responsibility.

My DS, who is an MS-III now, says that too many MS-I's aim to "just pass" instead of building a regimen to hit a goal well past the standards.

Now go for a run!

Good luck.

One question.

Did you initially pass an APFT to activate your 2.5 year Scholarship and this was just another APFT, or was this the APFT that was needed to pass to activate the scholarship? It will make a difference in regard to your scholarship.

@Jcleppe , My cadre already approved my cadet payment request on goarmyed. I am just waiting on the pms.

Was the APFT you failed a diagnostic or “for record” test?

Usually, “for record” APFTs aren’t done until April and October of each year. I do understand some units do it differently though.

If it’s a diagnostic APFT you failed, then you’re ok.

You are going to find that every program handles this a little different. The PMS could immediately suspend your scholarship, which would mean unless he lifts that suspension you could end up stuck with a tuition bill and possibly a disenrollment. The PMS could also say he’s got until the end of the semester to pass and you just get a warning. Since none of us know how your PMS will handle it you best see your Cadre ASAP and ask them.

SOP for my battalion is that we take 1-2 "diagnostic" APFT's prior to 1 "record" APFT that's towards the end of the semester. These diagnostic tests are just to see where we are personally, and aren't held against us. If that's the same where you are, then my advice is just to prepare for the record APFT. Either way just speak to your cadre, they should be able to answer your question.

This apft was a diagnostic. I believe our next diagnostic is in mid-March and our record is in April.

Since you failed the diagnostic, you’re fine. Nothing bad should happen to you because of a diagnostic APFT failure.

Diagnostics are only to see where you’re at so you can adjust fire and work in weak areas.

If you fail the record one in April, then I’d be worried. However, you will probably be given one more chance to pass if you fail the record one in April
