Waiver?

So I just got Medically DQ’d due to Astigmatism.

I just checked my portal today and under USNA, it says “Pending Waiver Submission/Review,” but under USAFA, it says “Does not meet Medical standards.”

I don’t have a nomination for USNA, but I have a nomination for USAFA.

Does this mean that USAFA has not yet reviewed my file, and might request for a waiver sooner or later? Or am I officially out of the game?

Does this also mean that I am highly considered for USNA’s prep or foundation programs?

I think what is on your USAFA portal is a statement of fact from DoDMERB.

Have you been told by USAFA Admissions they were putting you forward for a medical waiver (verbal, email or message/letter on your USAFA portal)?

If not? Recommend you make a respectful call to your USAFA Admissions POC and ask if they are planning to put you forward for a medical waiver.

If you don’t have a nom for USNA, that rules out a lot of things. There is a chance for a VP nom if you applied for it.

The USNA waiver language is likely to do with medical qualifications, and status of any waiver requests, and nothing to do with NAPS or prep offers.

USNA doesn’t tell you if you are triple qualified.

Just sit tight and let the process work itself out. Have your Plan B and C ready to go. Focus on what you can actually control. Stay strong in school and get out there and PT for fitness and stress.

You’ve got a high degree of astigmatism if you’re DQ right off the bat.

You asked if you are officially out of the game. Depends on your degree of astigmatism.

If you happen to have your eye glasses prescription and can provide it, then I can tell how bad your astigmatism really is.

Nothing from USAFA Admissions...

I emailed my Admissions POC immediately right after I saw my Medical Disqualification. Looking forward to hear good news..

I have a -3.25 on my left eye, and a -2.00 on my right eye.

If you read the numbers right off your prescription (the numbers above could also be your correction for nearsightedness or farsightedness), then it appears you barely miss the standards for astigmatism.

You’re good to go with the -2.00. You’re off by only 0.25 diopters on the other eye.

I don’t see why you won’t get a waiver being so close to the standards. On another day, you may be able to pull out a -3.00 and be within the standards.

Good luck.

I see. I was really shocked when I saw that I was 0.25 diopters short.

But fingers are still crossed! Really hoping for the best!
