SAT score

Ellie. Refer to the RAND Report. Most stats you need to know about all SAs and expectations are there. The report is bit old but not much has changed.

But why seek to exceed the minimum. Minimum is not the bar to exceed. Academies purposely publish the average so you can exceed the Academy average stats for the best chance possible. Aim high in all areas. This is true throughout your life. Don’t skate!

That 10 yr old Rand report is offer cited out of context here. The WCS was not the purpose of the study, but was mentioned in the report. It was done for WP so you can't assume it relates to every SA. Each year, you will find some applicants who got an appointment to one SA, but a TWE from another which indicates their admissions criteria are not exactly the same. Even at WP, the formula might have changed in the past 10 yrs and if you carefully read the study, it says that other factors are include in the WCS they did not assess.

SAT/ACT scores are only one factor considered for admissions.

If you want to get an idea how you stack up against others, search for the class profiles. 2021 is the latest available and it states the percentages of admitted candidates who fall into certain score ranges, etc.

There is not one specific number that will disqualify you in terms of testing, well within reason. You are still evaluated on the entire application.

They do not publish a bare minimum for because there is really no such thing. Lower scores may highlight your applications as at "risk" and they will look for other things to support the low score.

I would also caution against reading too much into the "Rand" report. It is a good reference document to give you an overview of the process but I am sure the details of the process has changed through the years.

It seems that you are new to the process, you have to keep in mind that this is still a competition, even if you squeak by and get qualified with lower than average test scores, it is very unlikely that you will win the slate.

All of that being said, the test scores are probably the single most important of the several factors. A great test score alone won't get you in, but if you had to pick one where you were very high in, the SAT/ACT scores should be in. And, while the Rand report shouldn't be considered gospel, it is in my assessment the single best available published resource to understand the WCS scoring mechanism, and if you understand that you will have a pretty good understanding of the process.

As for minimum score, I believe that has become a floating number, largely dependant on who the academy wishes to admit. I know that a football recruit from my area is being admitted with a math score that he was told four months ago was too low, and that it needed to go up by several points. It didn't, but he is in. Kind of disappointing, but the agendas of the academy have been "tweaked" a bit (and not coincidentally we have a winning streak against Navy now). It is what it is. Unless you are a desired athlete, move your score.

Would taking the SAT after a certain point be a waste of time?

My current highest score is a 1540 (740V/800M) with a 7/5/7 on the essay.

Accordingly, should I retake or just focus on the other parts of my application to increase my WCS in other respects?

Also, does taking SAT II subject tests help one's application in any way or form?

Are you an applicant for class of 2022? If so, with those scores I would think it would be a waste of time. Also, I don't think there is time to get it scored and submitted for evaluation by admissions.

If you're an applicant for a later class year then it doesn't hurt to take it again. It might also help with plan B, C, D, and E. Taking the SAT doesn't take much time for someone of your caliber so you should still focus on improving your WCS in other ways.

John Kim,

I honestly think that your SAT score is the highest that I’ve seen on this forum! Way to go! If you’re applying for the class of 2023, it wouldn’t hurt to take the SAT again (all SAs superscore). As for subject tests, my RC told me that taking them does not improve your competitiveness. You should take them if you’re applying to civilian schools though.

I hope this helped,

Great scores! Probably should just concentrate on other areas on application.
Also, you should change your user ID to something other than your real name on this public forum.

Does anyone know the bare minimum SAT score that would have you accepted? Thanks in advance!
The bare minimum scorers don't represent the majority of those receiving the BFE.
Off-topic advice: change your user name to something other than your real name. This is a public forum. Disregard if username doesn't represent real name.

My son took the SAT, and is very happy with his score. However, he took the version without the essay. So he will obviously need to take it again with essay to apply to USMA. My question is, will he still be able to use his non-essay test results for superscoring purposes? USMA accepted his non-essay test for SLE and notified him that he will need to take the essay version for his actual application. It wasn't clear if the test he already took would be considered at all. He got an 800 in math, and I'm not sure the odds of him doing the same the next time around. He would hate to see this score not get recognized.

I can't believe this thread is talking about an extra 60V points. Please. I would hope the SAs are a bit more well-rounded than to hang a sign on someone saying "officer" because he or she had a successful Saturday morning and didn't look at the other 364.5 days of the year.
