Hi there!
I recently received the Immediate Scholarship Reservation for Navy ROTC but at a designated unit. I have not yet heard whether or not I have been accepted into the school. I am wondering whether this scholarship will have any pull on me gaining admission. It is a tough school to get into and the scholarship only stands with this particular unit, so I'm hoping this scholarship might influence the admissions decision. Thanks in advance.

I recieved an ISR back in December and haven't heard anything yet. From what I can tell it still needs to be reviewed by the board and apparently December / January boards were cancelled.

Check your NetFocus account as well, if items are still missing those may need to be submitted by your coordinator before board review.

It depends on the school. It matters to some schools that you have a scholarship that will pay the full retail price. Other schools couldn't care less. Your best bet for an answer to this question is to contact the unit. Keep in mind most people don't hear about acceptances until March or April. It's not time to get too worried yet. Nevertheless.... keep working backup plans.

Some units have the ability to offer "additional positive support" to an application--usually the ones, from what we have seen thus far, that are working to build their units. So go ahead and contact the unit and let them know that you have the scholarship and hope to be admitted and do NROTC at that unit. The ones we contacted when DD got her ISR were very helpful. Good luck!

As stated above, your scholarship may have influence at some schools, not not all. It wouldn't hurt to reach out to the Admissions office and the NROTC unit at the university. The other thing to keep in mind is that your scholarship is assigned to that unit right now, but it can be transferred to another unit, as long as there is room at the unit you want to change to. Other posts have said the process is pretty simple and was completed in a couple days. Instructions will be on your portal and the letter you receive. Good luck.

Agree with BlackIce. DS was awarded an ISR recently, but you have to await the selection board making sure everything is in order (they simply don't decide whether you merit the scholarship - the ISR already makes that clear) and then you have to go through to Placement. What leads you to believe that the Unit has already been determined? Or did you mean that the ISR was awarded and then weeks later you were placed at a Unit to which you have not been accepted...? Irrespective, agree with all the other replies that you should contact the Unit. Out of curiosity, which Unit, if you don't mind me asking? SMCs and other NROTC-friendly universities/colleges are likely more apt to consider the scholarship as a factor in admissions.

When I first heard that I received the scholarship, I got a call from a recruiter and he told me he wants me to be placed at the University Of Michigan's unit, so I'm assuming that I will be placed there. I am from Michigan and it is a dream to be able to participate in U of M NROTC while getting an education there, I'm just hoping that maybe there is some influence on my admissions profile now that I have gotten the scholarship. It is a historically tough school to get into. I am patiently waiting for news/ updates from my recruiter, U of M, USNA, and my NetFocus account. Hoping for the best!!

Good luck to you! My DS is a 4/C there and is having a fantastic experience. The staff is first rate and the unit seems to foster a very positive learning environment.
