Question on tumor/next steps

My son received a DQ due to a brain tumor he had when he was 5 years old. There was also a request for an AMI regarding another unrelated matter that I don't see being a big issue. The tumor, however, seems to be a another story. The tumor was benign, was 100% removed, never reoccurred and is the type that rarely reoccurs, no signs of issues, side effects, or problems, and my son was medically cleared as no longer needing to have MRI's. In other words, he rec'd a clean bill of health. We have a lot of medical records, doctor letters, etc that support the above.

The AMI was addressed a couple days ago. Nothing was requested regarding the tumor. I wonder if the best approach is to simply answer the AMI questions we were asked and wait to see what is requested during the waiver process (hopefully) on the tumor, or is being proactive better by providing the tumor medical records and doctor's letters upfront? I haven't been able to find much online regarding benign childhood tumors like this and working through the DoDMERB process. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Page 49 section 30 seems applicable.

"30. TUMORS AND MALIGNANCIES

a. Current benign tumors (M8000) or conditions that interfere with function, prevent the proper wearing of the uniform or protective equipment, shall require frequent specialized attention, or have a high malignant potential, such as Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome."

Usually it is best to wait and provide additional info during the waiver process but I think you may have grounds to challenge the DQ if the DQ was made for the tumor. Recommend your DS contact his DoDMERB tech to discuss.
 
Something like this happened to me, I had 2 pending DQ's and was asked for one remedial for another different issue. I knew I would be DQ for those 2 and maybe for the third issue but that last issue (the one I was being asked a remedial for) was very easy to trump if I had a simple normal test.. I started getting all asked if me but was perplexed as to why I was not asked for more information on the other two, they were just requesting info and more test on the easier one.

So I asked Mr. Mullen Deputy of DODMERB as to why, he told me I could send all I wanted and gave me a list of things to send. See I am in a very tight spot on time and wanted to accelerate the process. Mr. Mullen told me they might do that so the applicant does not get stuck in the remedial process and goes to the waiver process faster.

The bottom line is you will still get DQ no m matter what you sent to DODMERB because that is a DQ'ing condition BUT once you get DQ then your case goes to the Waiver Authority and you can send all they ask of you and of you want to send more then do that too but I suggest you sit tight and wait. You might sent something they don't need and that could put you in more trouble.

Once in the waiver process they sent me detailed instructions about what they wanted and what they did not wanted in my medical records and that's the kind of info you need to send the correct information to the Waiver authority.
 
I hope everything works out for your DS. It was so long ago, I can't see why it would be an issue.

I am sorry, but the first thing I thought of was "It's not a toomah!" :)
