Though this thread is for applicants that have been accepted. I would like to say that I have been denied from USNA. I’m from Fl-08. I will reapply to USNA for class of 2023 and apply this time for a NROTC scholarship. Good luck to everyone else and don’t lose hope!

Keep your head up. I was denied last year so I went to Virginia Tech. I was bummed out about not being a mid, but I quickly realized everything was going to be ok. Although I am still committed to going to the Naval Academy, I wouldn't trade my time spent here for the world. Keep your head on straight and you'll be glad things worked out the way they did!

WOW!!! Thank you for your bravery and honesty!! I hope you the best in your reapplication process~! I hope this tread gives others who have been denied hope. Fair winds and Following Seas.

Can you provide some info on how you like Virginia Tech... My DS Plan B is VA Tech NROTC and is awaiting both NROTC notification (hopefully soon) and Va Tech admissions updating on March 5th... This would provide some positive information after receive TWE today!

To start off, I am actually not in NROTC or the corps of cadets. My major is National Security and Foreign Affairs, a tier 3 major. Being a tier three major at a technical school (engineers everywhere), I felt as if my best interest would be to go to OCS after graduation if the USNA doesn't work out. With that being said, about half of my classes are cadets, and I am friends with plenty of them. They love having a mixture of a strict military regiment and a large scale university that just so happens to have the best sports teams in Virginia :D (not UVA). In comparison to the other senior military colleges, I would say that it is definitely a lot less strict and not quite as harsh. As for why I love it, the campus is the second most beautiful in the country (behind USNA of course), the students have an amazing sense of school pride, that really makes you feel at home with one another, and of course the sports teams are just the icing on the cake. If your DS ends up here, I promise he'll love it (and so will you). If you want more specific answers about the corps, DM me and I can explain in further detail. Good luck!

My DD loved the tour of Va Tech last week. We saw Texas A and M, University of Texas-Austin, University of New Orleans and Va. Tech. Next month, We are seeing Va. Tech for a 2nd time and also seeing Ga. Tech for the 2nd time, plus touring Purdue, University of Michigan and Univ. of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. DD's NROTC scholarship has been placed at Ga. Tech (and DD is an Early Action admit there already). DD has been admitted to all the mentioned schools (except Va. Tech who will release decisions 3/5). Her #1 still remains USNA, of course! But she has a lot of great choices!

Not going say you are wrong going OCS, but you do limit your chances of entering the Naval by doing it that way. I mean, there is no guarantee they are going to say yes, while Rotc will get you in if you do everything right and in many cases just about everything right.

I completely understood that when making my decision, and many people last year would have agreed with what you said, but I stand behind my decision not to join the corps and believe I made the right one. Many people stressed that making good grades was most important and I worked hard to make Deans List my first semester here. Yes, having NROTC would look nice on my application, but hopefully my improvements in all aspects of this years application over last years will be enough.

She definitely does! Good luck with USNA, but I'm sure she will be happy wherever she ends up!

I hope it goes really well for you. I know each program is different, but honestly, while my son was well involved in Rotc, it took nothing away from his education. I can honestly say that my sons grades wouldnt have been any better or worse if he had not belonged to Rotc. AGain, I wish you good luck and seriously hope it works out for you

Thanks for posting this. My DD will apply next year. We are also looking at other colleges as well and more traditional college experience. So, this thread is a great one to read & realize other options are equally fulfilling.

I'm am a bit biased as my name tells you but while UT Austin is an amazing school that I would have gone to, the people are not particularly military friendly (many protests against US mil action), however, Texas A&M has a legendary corps of cadets that I would wholeheartedly recommend taking a deeper eye into.

TexMex, If you are headed up to University of Michigan you should check out Notre Dame's N-ROTC unit. South Bend is not that far from Ann Arbor. It is also an excellent unit with a lot of campus support - some say the best unit in the US!! (and I don't meant to start a debate....)

Did you receive a TWE or an email yesterday?

You have the right attitude to be a fine officer some day. The Navy will be lucky to have you.
Keep at it, and keep that positive attitude.

My DD did not care for UT-Austin at all. (No offense to anyone who has a differing opinion). I actually really liked TAMU, but her 1st impression was that it was "remote". I may be to blame here, as we drove to College Station from New Orleans (it was a 5 hour drive). When we went to Va. tech, we flew into Roanoke and then drove to Va. Tech the next morning- took about 40 minutes. She said Va. Tech didn't seem as rural as TAMU. I found it a funny statement, but realized the "long drive" vs. the "short drive" must've been what made one feel less rural than the other. I told her College Station was a 2 hour drive from Austin and even less from Houston, but her impression "it was too remote" may be too much to overcome. Additionally, she is a foodie and she liked the food at Va. Tech better than TAMU- you know, the whole 2 or 3 meals we had when visiting.
