Question about the 2018 Naval Academy summer seminar?

Okay, I'm a Junior and I just found out yesterday I was accepted to the second session for the 2018 summer seminar. I am not entirely sure on what the implications of this are, (I went to STEM in 2016) but my main concern is that I applied on the 4th of March and was accepted on the 6th of March, because I was expected at least a couple weeks of wait time. I'll run over my resumé really quickly also.

2 Varsity letters in Football and baseball, I am the starting Varsity quarterback and was the football team captain this year as voted on by my teammates. (And last year as well for jv.) I've also lettered in baseball since my freshman year.

I'm a PO3 in the Seacadets, have acted as ALPO and LPO of my division, and graduated from POLA (petty officer leadership academy) in August of 2017 at AFTC Rilea.

I am in the National Honor Society, have a 4.0 UW GPA and am an IB Diploma candidate with over 100 hours community service.

I am in my schools "Boys to Men" club, and we have been involved throughout the community and have participated in numerous assemblies at other high schools.

I'm involved in a group at my church, and worked a part-time job at mcdonalds in the off season.

I also admin an instagram history page called @warpixs with almost 4500 followers, (not sure if this matters or not but I'm proud of it.)

My ACT also wasn't amazing, a 28 overall.

So with all this in mind, my major questions are a) do I have a strong record for the academy in general and b) what does it mean that I was accepted within 2 days? And help at all would be appreciated. Thank you!

A. Most of your record looks great, retake your ACT, maybe try the SAT, keep taking them until you can get those scores as high as possible.
B. Don't read anything in to how quickly you were accepted.
C. Work out and prepare for the CFA you will take at NASS. If you can excel on that, its one less application area you need to worry about this summer/fall

Thank you for the response!

Agree on timing. Coincidence more than anything. Read every part of the USNA admissions site, read the stickies on this site and start to put your timeline together for an application.

Will do. Thanks!

JUST MY OPINION, based on my DS going through it for class of 2022!

The Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS) is a get-aquainted marketing tool of USNA.
Getting into NASS has no bearing whatsoever on your competitiveness as a potential candidate.
Getting into NASS in 2 days, has no bearing on your viability as a potential candidate, either.
It may just mean that you live in an under-represented area of the country (meaning that USNA doesn't get a lot of applications from your neck of the woods).

There are several threads here that describe this in detail.
One thing that you will be able to do at NASS is take the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA).
If you have a really strong CFA while at NASS, you may not have to re-take the CFA again, if you become an actual candidate, later.
(You still CAN re-take the CFA later, though).

Applying for NASS starts your "preliminary application", which becomes part of your "official application" later, if you are selected as a Candidate and given a Candidate number.

This application process will take the better part of a year to fully complete and get the news that you made it or you didn't.
If you have already decided that you are going to do it, be prepared for the biggest test of patience of your lifetime, so far.
Is it worth it? Absolutely!

Thank you for the help! I'll definitely take your advice :)

A lot of factors go in, but you seem pretty qualified. What region you’re from also is a part of it. Retake SAT and ACT as many times as possible and stay on top of physical fitness

+1 There are many good resources (e.g., Kaplan) available for helping to improve your ACT and SAT scores. It's not just your aptitude or what you've learned in school; it really helps to learn "how" to take the test. Good luck!

Got my 25 ACT to a 29 with just four days in a program. Highly recommend. Wasn’t even able to go to the class for a whole week because Navy told me I was academically unqualified right before the December ACT so I signed up and took the test within five days; my parents invested $900 or so for this prep course but it’s totally worth it. Got into NAPS .. $900 for five years of college and career.. not bad.

Excited to be going to Session 1 of the USNA SS and then on to Session 2 of the USMA SLE & then to Boys state. It will be a very June month but it will all be worth it. Still waiting for the USMA All American Academy selection.

pnwwildcat,

What is USMA "All American Academy selection"? I'm not familiar with this, but as a 3x AA looking to apply to USNA and USMA this year I would love to know about it! I will use all the help I can get!
