Hello! I have created a checklist of things I would like to bring to USAFA. I would like to know what out of my checklist is allowed and not allowed. Thank you!

(Female)
- Phone + charger
- Laptop + charger
- Moleskin
- Portable mirror
- Hair ties
- Feminine products (the monthly)
- Regular bra (1)
- Sports bra (2-3)
- Basic T- short
- Underwear
- Deodorant
- Toothbrush + paste
- Shaver
- Jeans (1)
- Cortisone
- Neosporin
- Shampoo/ conditioner
- Shoe inserts
- Digital picture frame
- Eyedrops
- Health supplements [Turmeric (for inflammation), Iron (anemia), etc. for health]

Out of this list, what is considered okay, limited, or not allowed? Thank you!

Are you an appointee? The instructions on what can be brought to in-processing are all included in the checklist on your portal. OTC medications and supplements are generally not permitted; you will be issued some basic OTC remedies. All the specific info is contained in the Class of 2022 Appointee Booklet, pp. 17, 18, 20. You will be permitted to have more items after BCT.

I agree with Billberna, bring only what is specifically listed in the Instructions to Appointees in a small bag (there is a reason why the packing list is in a checklist format - any additional items will likely be confiscated). On A-Day we brought our DS a pair of Nike boots (they are lighter than the Danner Rivot boots he used during BCT), a selection of school supplies he purchased prior to BCT, and a few snacks. Most other items can wait until PW (Parents Weekend) so you can determine what items are recommended and allowed by your squadron.

The only deviation my DS made from the list was the addition of several pairs of black compression shorts. Basics deviating from the list are likely to attract extra attention from the cadre on I-Day (at that is something you really don't want ;)).

C4Cs are not allowed to have civilian clothing (e.g. jeans) until after Recognition.

I hope this helps.

I am not an appointee yet I am preparing way ahead of time out of excitement! What is allowed after BCT? Can (on parents weekend) my parents bring my medication- the turmeric is just a natural root with anti-inflammatory properties? Or is that still lot allowed? If there is anywhere online you know about where I can find out about a “possessions timeline” then let me know! I watched a YouTube video about a BCT checklist and he said to bring our own watch and running shoes—would you agree? Thank you so much! I appreciate your help:)

Yes, you are to bring athletic shoes, wear any boots you may already have purchased, and the remaining list are specific forms and completed paperwork, proof of citizenship, immunization records (important if you don't want to get them again), certain very basic toiletry items, lip balm, underwear (8 white sports bras, 12 white cotton briefs), feminine hygiene products, sunscreen, writing paper and stamps, and a watch. And possibly molded cleats. That's pretty much it. Along with the civvies clothing you are wearing that morning. Try to get it all into a backpack or the smallest piece of luggage you can fit it in. You want to have to hand carry as little as possible that day.

what does "Sports watch (rubber or soft plastic … NO metal)" mean?
This means a watch that can stand up to abuse, dirt, sweat and water exposure. Most dressy watches that are silver or gold/ shiny metal band and encasement would not be a good choice.

Just bring what is on the list. You can bring less, but don't bring more.
I think what you're looking for here is the standard for all incoming freshmen at any Service Academy :

"Anything that will make your life easier or contribute to enjoyment in any way, is expressly prohibited"

Keep in mind that whatever you bring must be carried in your left hand only for the duration of inprocessing. On top of that, you will also be carrying, in your left hand, everything that is issued to you on that day. So, the smaller and lighter you can keep your initial "load", the better off you will be.

Thank you once again!

DD had multi vitamins taken away as they "created an unfair advantage."

What if it isn’t a multivitamin? No vitamin or anything it is just a root from a plant that is anti inflammatory and you get from Costco. Still not allowed? I will verify when it comes to the time as well, but I just know it is a big help so that’s why I’m pushing on it. Thank you

you should just bring it and see what happens.

Ibuprofen is also an anti-inflammatory that they issue you so you don't need anything else for that.
