Waiting nervously and patiently for news

If I haven’t heard back from USNA yet regarding my admissions status, does that mean I don’t have a good chance of getting in? I’m nervous and this is my dream. I just want to know what my odds of receiving an appointment are if I’m still in the game this late. My area is highly competitive, and there have already been appointments in my congressional district. Thank you!

Given that applications only closed 3 weeks ago I don't think you need to be concerned yet.

I wouldn't give up the ship yet! Appointments will be awarded through April. If you don't have a TWE, you are still in the game! There are many instances of more than one, sometimes even several, appointments being awarded in the same congressional district.

Not to look for any certainty in this but to try to clarify something from another post which said folks would hear by April 15: Is there something significant about that date; do they have to tell you something by then? (just asking because I've read all the posts about national pool, etc, and seems that could take a while...)

Yes, by 4/15.....USNA will inform most of their status...........

  • The USNA uses a "rolling admissions" selection process. Most candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15.
  • All appointees should notify the Admissions Office of their intention to accept or decline by May 1.
  • Applications must be completed by January 31 or will not be considered for admittance into the USNA.

A LOT of appointments come out in February and early March. You are always still in the game if you haven't received a TWE. Historically, most people who get good news learn before March 15. After that, the TWEs far outweigh the appointments. However, candidates definitely receive appointments into April and sometimes after that (off the Wait List).

I know we're supposed to wait silently and patiently, but just one more question please if anyone knows: do you get any notification if you do not "win your slate" but are put into the national pool (and thus your hopes are still alive); or is it appointment or TWE at this point? I'm trying to figure out what are the actual possibilities if folks say you're going to hear something by April 15. Thanks for playing!

Based on the self-reporting threads from past years (with last year as a seeming exception), I'm beginning to grow nervous that perhaps the bulk of appointment offers have already gone out. [emoji29]

I don't actually know the answer to this, but from an efficiency point of view I can't imagine they would notify each person who didn't win their slate and was put into the national pool. To do so would be more time consuming and they are likely already doing everything possible to complete the admissions process without adding more work. Just my guess.

That makes sense, just wasn't sure how the national pool worked. So I guess if the website says most candidates will know their "final status" by April 15, that means TWE or appointment, and a TWE means not selected in the national pool... (I do know there's not a great chance in the pool anyway, and certainly not counting on that)

You will not hear anything until you get an Offer of Appointment , or a TWE. All of the decisions are behind the scenes while Candidate is CPR.

In addition to appointment or TWE, hearing something by April 15 can also mean being put on the wait list. DS was wait listed April 15 and got a TWE on June 4. DD was wait listed April 15, and received TWE on May 22nd. Both re-applied and received appointments the following January.

What does a wait list notice look like? Is it an email and portal "You've been wait listed"? Apparently wait-listing increases chances for acceptance next year?

Old Navy BGO, is this also the case if you are pending medical waiver for DQ? Do you receive any notification that a waiver has been requested? Or, does everything in portal continue to say 'complete pending review' and 'complete medical qualification exam' until a decision is made?

if you are waiting for a waiver, you most likely will not see any indication that a waiver has been requested, it will continue to show "pending waiver submission" on the dodmerb site.
The next thing you'll see is 'waiver approved'. If you see that, then it's a very good sign because USNA only pursues waivers for candidates in line for an appointment. if you get the waiver, mostly likely next thing you'd see is an offer of appointment, but that's not guaranteed.
If they don't pursue a waiver, you will probably see a TWE without any determination of the waiver
good luck!
