Appointment Wave

Does anyone happen to know when the first big appointment waves have been over the past several years? I know it’s a waiting game and probably changes each year, but details help me cope better with this horrible anticipation!

I think we are close to a big wave if the dates are similar to last year. Looking at the Class of 2021 list around 59 appointments were listed between March 6-March 15.

We are anxiously waiting to hear for my DS as well! This is definitely not for the faint of heart! Just a question, are they still giving out congressional and senator slate appointments or are we already at appointing from the “national pool”?

My DS received his appointment during this week of March last year and it was a Congressional Slate.

Since a kid in my congressional district received an appointment last week, I guess my DS is waiting for an appointment from the national pool. Does anyone know if those are given out later like April and May?

This isn’t really a direct answer to that question, bu but I asked my nomination POC in the senator’s office a similar question and this was her response:
“Hi Makinna:

Great question – the academy does not actually “charge” our cadet until students report for duty in the summer. I am not exactly sure how they determine who is charged to a member’s spot. While we will only end up with one charged cadet for this class, that doesn’t mean that only one of our nominees will receive an appointment. I know that’s a bit confusing, but there are other spaces available for nominees without them being officially charged to us. Does that make sense?

For example, last year (Class of 2021) we could nominate 20 students to the Air Force Academy (we had 2 vacancies that year). Out of our 20 nominees, 7 of them received offers of appointment.”

(I had asked whether the senator had already been notified of one of his nominees being appointed, to see if that “slot” had been taken.)

It's not over 'til they say it's over... Hang in there!
If patterns hold true, expect most appointments to be awarded by the end of April, with the biggest wave in March (right now). Appointees must accept/decline by May 1 so there may be a few that go out in May, but very, very few. You will probably hear more Falcon scholarships awarded in May.

When I talked to my MOC office yesterday, they told me that they are still waiting to hear from USAFA, so I would suspect there are many other slates besides my district still being determined.

Confusing. My DS has 5 NOMS. 3 USAFA & 2 USNA. Wondering if the amount NOMS increases his chances?

Very small town- class size about 14 or so. School does not offer much at all as far as sports or anything else for that matter. He is a second degree Black Belt in Taekwondo specializing in Olympic Sparing. He travels 3 hours round trip after school for training with his coach. Also trains with a current US National TKD Team coach regularly at many major events. DS has been a TKD practitioner since age 4. Has an impressive resume. Metaled in over 40 major national competitions. Participated in multiple international comps- US Open, Canada Open etc. made team trails for team USA on two occasions and was selected as an alternate once. DS was also selected as AAU athlete of the year twice. Attended SS last June and loved it.

SAT 610/ 690. GPA 3.85

Trying to get a sense of what the odds are. Anyone else have a similar DS DD?

Does anyone know how USAFA sends appointments with MOC nominations out? Do they do it by state? Do they do competitive slates last?

Also, my DD just received medical qualification from DODMERB last week. Will that late qualification impact the possibility of her being in this wave?

Thanks!

More noms means if the SA wants him, they have more “lists” they can potentially slot him against. If he doesn’t win a spot on one list against all others with that nom, they can take a look at how he stacks up against the candidates with the other nom source. Failing that, and assuming he is fully qualified, he goes into the national pool and competes against everyone in the same situation. If he applied for the VP nom, there’s a shot at that.

No way of figuring actual odds.

If he hasn’t heard yet, he’s still in play.

If he really wants this and isn’t offered an appointment, and he’s got his Plan B ready to go, he puts his head down, excels at that, and re-applies.

Thank you!!

He does have a plan B- Embry Riddle. One problem is that he missed the ROTC deadline. He is committed to reapplying for 2023. It will give him a chance to sure up his game.

Best of luck to all. It’s a real pressure cooker

If USAFA doesn't work out, DET 157 at ERAU is an amazing place. I spent nearly 2 years with the detachment before enlisting due to non-AFROTC related circumstances. Outstanding cadre, and an amazing training regiment. I hope to return to the program after I complete my enlistment contract.

So... Did the appointment wave already come? There were a decent number of appointments on the 13th. Would that have been it, or is there another predicted wave coming.

We’re wondering as well. There was a decent number added to the list in the forum, but to be honest, I was expecting a higher number if that was the big wave. DS is stressed and I am beyond that at this point. A friend of his received a LOA for Track a couple of months ago, succeeded in earning a nomination, but still has not received his appointment.
