Today my candidate received the TWE on the Portal. 3Q - 2 Nominations (Congressional & Senatorial) - Brother and Father both are Grads. Can't begin to tell you the disappointment. Has anyone ever received the TWE and then by some miracle been offered an appointment? We need that miracle. (Meant TWE in the title; not TWC)

Have your son/daughter reach out to their RC about an AOG scholarship - my son was from a competitive district and didn't win the slate, but was offered an AOG and spent last year at MMI. He has an appointment now. If your candidate is interested in this, express interest to your RC.

Sorry this happened. It does happen--esp in competitive districts. Reapply!!! When they retake those core classes as a plebe, they get a great GPA first year!!

Understand the disappointment and frankly the devastating news. Been there with our DS.
Learned through the process that esp in competitive districts, those reapplying from last year could have gotten the nod this year bc of adding a year of college and other improvements to their resume. Still possible to get the AOG as stated above, it’s a golden ticket. If not, look at all options .....local or other college with AROTC, beef up any weak areas.
Our DS did self prep at MMI, great program, military environment, lots of scholarship help available. We did not know reapplying was an option , did not know about MMI until someone reached out to us after we got the same news you did. Feel free to pm with any thoughts or questions.

Thayer, what is DS plan B? Perhaps there is an ROTC unit at a school where he has been accepted? I have read posts on this thread that some students who go ROTC without a scholarship, bust it, and get offered an ROTC scholarship for the second semester. I think it is a school sponsored scholarship; others may be able to be more definitive than I am.

My 2020 was very upset when turned down senior year. Turned down scholarships (Air Force and Army ROTC) with much fear and trepidation of his parents. Self sponsored to NWP. It worked for him. No guarantees, I'd love to spend time in the admissions office and just observe.

It is extremely rare to get a TWE and then offered an appointment, but it has happened.

For a fully qualified candidate admissions has to balance the odds of appointment against the need to inform a candidate in a timely manner that an appointment isn't forthcoming. On rare occasions a miscalculation occurs - the odds are probably not much better than the odds of winning the lottery.

The best course of action is to inform the RC that you are still interested in USMA and will reapply next year and ask for advice on how to improve your chances, but if a spot does open up this year you would readily accept.
