How do USMAPS and AOG offers normally work?

I heard that there was about two more weeks left of handing out appointments and rejections. If you don't get either, then does that mean you are being considered for the prep school or an AOG scholarship? I know they have to wait for the acceptance deadline, but do they start filling in slots from the "wait" list when rejections start coming in?

DD got her AOG offer in late March of last year. Usually your RC can tell you what your chances are for appointment (depending on where you are on slate and NWL) and then you can inquire about possible prep spot.

He was first on his slate. So it would be appropriate to ask his RC if he is being considered for an appointment or for prep?

If he was first on his slate and 3Q then he should be getting offer of appointment and prep school or AOG is unnecessary. Did RC say he was #1 on slate (or did MOC rank)?

What do you mean by "first on his slate" ? Did the MOC identify him as the principal nominee? Did the RC tell him that he is #1 on his slate? Or did the MOC just tell him that they think he is the best candidate?

We really need to know the answer to that question before we can really give you any advice.

Prep school is only an option for applicants who are not fully qualified. Qualified candidates may be offered an AOG sponsorship in the process but there only around 50 of these.

MOC said that he IS the principal nominee when he called to inform him of the nomination. He was on speaker so I heard it myself.

I don't think he will be offered an appointment. We have resigned to that fact because his math scores are a little on the low side compared to other applicants and I actually think the prep school is the better option for him. He's lived in Germany for the past 7 1/2 years and could used some time to readjust back to living in the states and to strengthen his math skills. Anyway, hopefully that's enough info to get some good insight.

That is a very good thing. The next question is has he received a 3Q letter? If he meets the minimum and is qualified by admissions, then he will get the appointment regardless of how he ranks against the other candidates.

If he is not qualified, the MOC and FFR may be able to discuss the option of Prep with admissions.

Did he get 3Qued?
Pretty much the big question.

There is more than 2 weeks left. My DD didn't get hers until April 25th, and others go deep into May. It just slows down quite a bit.

He has not gotten the 3Q letter. His RC told him today that his file is being looked at right now to see if he is 3Q.

My friend's USMA RC said that they are wrapping up applications/closing files in the next two weeks. I didn't mean to insinuate they are not continuing to give out nominations. I know they will continue to do this to fill the class as appointments are declined. I think this is referring to the initial round of applicants who got LOAs and were at the top of the list as well as the ones that were just not qualified and received their TWEs.

No, his file is being looked at right now to determine if he is 3Q. He is medically and physically qualified and he has the primary slot, but because his SAT math was a little low (however above risk threshold) and his class rank is top 35%, there is the possibility that he is not academically qualified. He goes to a very competitive Doddes high school in Germany where a large majority of the student body are high achieving kids of high ranking officers, Lt Col and up, and the top school for athletics in Doddes Europe. It really puts the kids at a disadvantage in this particular situation.

primary nomination, not slot

Principal nomination + 3Q= USMA Appointment
He only needs to meet the minimum standard (which no one knows what that is) to qualify. If he is around the average scores, he should qualify academically. Hang in there!
