Thanks! If you are weak in ECA's it won't hurt, but I wouldn't expect it to help that much either. You would probably gain more impact by organizing and leading a community program over the summer to pump your resume. Something like organizing a park clean up and improvement, that sort of thing.
Has anybody heard of the Devilpups program?
Never heard of it either, but their website makes it sound like anyone who applies can attend. Sounds like it is free, but parents are also encouraged to make a 'donation'. Attending seminars/camps/programs....etc. (there are several often get mentioned here) that have no selection criteria and everyone who applies is able to attend, are not the type of leadership SA's value. You don't buy leadership. SA's value leadership gained throughout h.s. by what you have actually accomplished.
I went to Devil Pups in 2015 and it was one of the best things I could have ever done. It opened my eyes to the different ways I could serve in the military and it showed me that the military was something I wanted to be a part of my life. I actually first heard of the Naval Academy there 3 years ago, and now I have my appointment to USNA for the Class of 2022. I personally would recommend it to everyone. During my nomination interview, the interviewers knew what it was and new the challenges pups face at this program. The mental and physical challenges I faced at Devil Pups helped me find confidence in myself and gave me an experience I can remember when I'm going through plebe summer. (The instructors, which are Marines, are no joke!) When I attended there were pups from California, Nevada, and the farthest was Colorado. It might not give you a leadership role you're looking for but the experience is one that you can't find anywhere else, except here in sunny San Diego, CA on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.During the summer I am attending NASS and Boys State. Has anybody heard of the Devilpups program? Is it worth going to boost the extracurricular aspect of my application?
