Few questions;

1.) What type of razor should we use during first beast? Second best? (electric or manual or battery?)

2.) What type of stuff should we pack up for our parents to bring out to us on parents weekend?

1) I am bringing both, electrical (with rechargeable battery) is my primary one with the manual as a backup in case the electric one breaks or we aren't in a place it can be charged.

2) Phone (if you don't bring it), the electric appliance you want in your room (USMA allows one plebe year such as a coffee maker but not sure about USAFA), materials for school (calendar, binder, and stuff like that so you don't have to buy it there). There are many possibilities with this, it depends on you and what is allowed.

We're issued almost all school materials I was told... And since parents weekend is after the academic year starts, you may only need supplemental school items.

Should we ask our parents to bring an advanced graphing calculator on PW (gotta love my TI-89)? Rather than bring it with us on I-Day?

somewhere in the appointee handbook, it said that USAFA would provide a calculator that would perform all basic functions that are covered in most of the math and science courses offered. you only need a fancy schmancy calculator if you're going into a really advanced math or science field (upper level courses).

Yes, you are issued the basics but there are many individuals who use things the bulk may not. (example: it's rare but some people may listen to lectures in their sleep with a recorder)

coffee makers are the ONLY appliance allowed, and that's only 3 dig year (technically 2 dig, but that's ignored).

That's funny, it's proven that listening to things in your sleep does absolutely nothing.

Although I kind of disagree and think it does something (not saying you memorize it but it does get put into your subconscious) it was just a random example I got from the top of my head to prove my point, I don't really know of anyone that does that.

I was reading someone's advice on facebook that we should find an activity that has LOS, which it said means getting out of intramurals and gets us out of the squadron during the day. Anyone know what activities/clubs this applies to?

The only two LOS activities that I know of are Drum and Bugle (which I am in) and Honor Guard. It's great to find an activity to get involved in, but don't do it JUST to get out of intramurals and squad activities. Intramurals aren't that bad, and during the spring semester I did Drum and Bugle and intramurals, even though I didn't have to.

So if we have an iPhone they just tell us not to listen to it? How does that work?

I was wondering the same thing, but since i know that you cant have your phone during the week for a while and they take the battery out of it (which doesnt work with the iphone) i thought they might take the whole thing and i didnt want to risk it getting lost or something so i just got a new phone
I had the oldest version of the iphone and it was pretty badly damaged over the last couple of years thanks to several mishaps so i thought i might as well get a different phone
plus i hated that you cant forward messages, turn t9 off or get picture mail on the iphone. even though its really cool i would rather have a traditional phone and an ipod, the iphone is a bug

Do whatever you think is right. Use that judgement of yours peeps

@usafaengineer2013 I agree with part of what you said, but the update that was released today fixes a LOT of my issues with the thing. I have found it to be quite the useful little bug while around colorado springs and the academy, and that was before the update.

I thought they only took it during bct

the only reason i said it could be a problem is that i was talking to someone that said that some squadrons do not allow phone usage for 4 digs during the week for a little while and to ensure this they might take the phone's battery and return it on week ends
however the iphone does not have a removable battery and that would mean that the whole thing would be taken
i'm not saying that i dont trust the upperclassmen but i know that stuff happens and things get misplaced or damaged sometimes and I wouldnt want to risk that with an iphone, when with any other phone you can buy a replacement battery, no biggie
and having an iphone, which is basically an ipod with the ability to call people would also be very tempting when it came to breaking the music rule since you can download the songs directly, i know other phones do that but i dont think it would be as easy as it is on an iphone and this could easily make it very tempting to break the no music rule
i am not a cadet so i could be completely wrong about this but it just seems not worth the risks
