Ok, Im new to this forum and saw that it was really helpful! So i have a question regarding I-day. So here goes...

Ok, back when I filled out online application I put that I had never tried Marijuana.....and I am ashamed. I was too scared to actually tell the truth. but now i have to fill out the I-day form filled with questions and it again asks about Marijuana use and I am putting that I have. Now will this affect my acceptance since it contradicts what I had originally submitted?

Also, if this doesn't get me kicked out before i begin, what will happen? Am I tested more often? Are there things I cant do? Can I still be a pilot? Or is it just a dishonorable mark on my record (or something along those lines)? Any advice.....Thanks!

From what I've been told, have MJ use on your record precludes you from certain jobs in the AF (not pilot though). But I'm hardly an expert on this matter...

It won't get you kicked based on contradiction. There was a time period between the two questions so they don't know if you tried it between both.

I highly doubt they will kick you out based on that. They may give you a talk about it but I highly doubt that. They realize that for every one cadet that admits it, about nine don't and it won't be fair for the honest ones to be punished.

Oh ok thanks! most appreciated!

Hmm...this is a very poor way to start out at the Academy! Talk about Honor Code......
Is this statistic even true? Sounds like the numbers would be too high, since the Academy is unlikely to appoint kids who have been mixed up with it. I know I am an exception, but I thought very very few would be? Right?

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you. I was really concerned about it a few weeks ago so I called around the usafa depts and got ahold of someone who works with the security clearances. She said it has nothing to do with your appointment, it's used more for proof your a citizen and that you don't have sd extensive crminal record. She said experimenting with marijuana doesn't really throw up any flags just fill out the time and place it occured and your fine. She said she gets cadets who do all kinds of crazy stuff like mushrooms. Just make sure you're clean before you come and don't do it again because they have people who may come out and ask you about it and if you lie THEN you can be sent home. Just tell the truth, keep your dignity, and don't let it keep you awake.

and don't let it keep you awake.

...so AFACadet13, you may go to sleep now lol. Sorry I had to. But yeah, I'm pretty sure there are many of us going to show up who have said no and you'll see them get caught for stupid things like those if not worse. I just think that you coming out like that is honorable and respectable. Thank you.

Bombtrack, I'm just saying he doesn't have to wonder for 9 days. But I agree there is probably a surprising percentage of kids who check yes. Here's the number I called if you have another question.. 1-719-333-8839

I know, I was joking. I thought the phrasing was funny.

The statistic isn't accurate. I said it for overall meaning (more appointees do it than those who admit it).

Just make sure you don't lie. Especially after you are sworn in. I've heard many stories of cadets making a small violation of a rule (which would have only called for a minor punishment) but were kicked out because they lied about it. The honor code is taking seriously.

I wonder if they ever put anyone under lie detector tests... wouldn't that get down to the core of the problem or is there some constitutional right preventing the government from doing so?

Same reason we don't get rid of our current legal system and just have a room with a lie detector to determine guilt. The tests aren't 100% accurate. It's not worth the risk. Some people can control the things that would cause the test to flag a lie, or an innocent person could be nervous because of what is at stake leading to the test detecting a lie that isn't there.

Free speech?

a lie detector wouldnt help since there are ways to pass a lie detector test.

Hmm...what kind of "flags" does it throw up? lol. I just want to know if by it being on record I will be restricted from participating in certain programs or possibly restrict my career field.....For example, I want to be a pilot....still possible?

He said it DOESN'T throw up any flags.

What she was saying was if there's inconsistancies in your discription. But if anything in your packet seems strange they'll come talk to you at some point in bct and it's just to understand your story. But obviously marijuana isn't new to them. More than likely you won't be questioned unless you were a dealer or addict or something. And I think a cadet on page one said pilot is still open.

Just wondering if any cadets have had experience with this or know someone? If we fess up on the second form I noticed 2030 says no punitive action will be taken does that mean they can't remove us?
