So I’ve read about the cases where waivers take months, sometimes a year. How common is this? My son is waiting for decisions on 2 waivers for AROTC. The timeline says 4-6 weeks, are most during this time, and we only hear about the lengthier ones? 6 weeks takes us to 4/24, just in time for May 1st decisions. Crossing my fingers!!!

The good news is, unlike the SA process where you compete for a slot and the SA determines whether to put you forward for a waiver, he has already won the scholarship . . . Army Cadet Command knows this. The timeline for the waiver will depend on the severity and/or complexity of the medical condition or issue.

Here is a link to a letter that was posted in 2015 listing unwaiverable conditions for Army ROTC. This letter is now out of date and I have not seen an update posted, but it gives good insight to what the Army ROTC is not willing to waive: https://www.jmu.edu/rotc/prospective-cadets/Non-waiverable medical conditions.pdf

Best wishes to you and your DS, and thanks for his willingness to serve

Thank you for your post! We got word last week that his waivers have been cleared and are just waiting for his battalion commanders signature! Very excited for his future!!

I was DQ'd in December, medical waiver was requested by USMA and AROTC in early January and was approved on April 25. Recipient of 4 year ROTC scholarship (declined) appointment (accepted) to USMA on May 1. Waiver process is grueling don't give up!
