Hello, I am currently a junior in high school and the Air Force Academy is my top choice next to West Point. However, I am not sure if my qualifications would get me accepted. So please respond with complete honesty, thanks. Also, if you have any suggestions please let me know.

My unweighted GPA is a 3.84 and weighted is 4.3. My SAT score is 1300 (700 math and 600 English). My ACT score is not good, but I am retaking it later this school year. It currently is a 24 (23 English, 28 math, 22 reading, 23 science, and 26 STEM). I am very involved in my NJROTC unit and have a staff position in the unit. Also, I am extremely involved in my church and its activities, and I am the Vice Chair of the Youth Leadership Team which plans the events for my church. I also have received acceptance into Virginia Girls' State and I have received the West Point Leadership Award. These are what I think make me stand out, let me know though.

Thanks all!

Sounds like youre on the right track! Youre involved in your community, you have good grades, and a good SAT score. It's a good idea to retake the ACT until you are content. The average ACT for 2017 incoming was a 30, so aim high. I didn't see you mention anything about athletics though? If you are in athletics, become your high school or club team captain for your senior year. If not, I would recommend that you join a sport. Other than that you seem to have a great resume!

I just replied to your post below

Try for a 700 on each category also take writing portion of sat and act. Take some challenging classes this next year and try to boost that gpa.
Get some leadership in as well. Try out for a class office. A captain for a sports team. But it will all come down to who in your district wins the slate

Well, one should always shoot for the best score possible. Let's say 800/800.

Being more realistic the USAFA web site actually has some average targets you should shoot for here: https://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/advice-to-applicants/all-applicants/
You can find similar information here: https://www.academyadmissions.com/a...plicants/all-applicants/academic-preparation/

These were the averages for the freshman class of 2017.
SAT Verbal 642
SAT Math 669

Although you seem to be in fair shape, keep in mind the average may not be good enough. This is a competition. You need to beat the competition on your nomination slate. I would actually keep taking it until I stopped improving. Something sticks in my head that USAFA only takes best sitting, but that may be AFROTC only. Research it.

BTW, and this is only meant to be helpful.... do your research. Read every word on the USAFA web site. If a 65 year old man like me can find this info in mere minutes, so can you. Research will always serve you. Of course, questions are always welcome, but you can often find the info on your own... and if it's unclear ask here, or elsewhere.

Improve the SAT scores. DO some prep work. There are free options and fee options.
What score should I shoot for from my background?
Just do your best. Keep taking until you are convinced you cannot raise your score.

Also, take a look at the Class of 2021 profile. http://www.neoafapa.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/2021_-_Demographic_Profiles.224160126.pdf
You can use Google to find other classes as well and get an idea of the "average" SAT and ACT scores for appointees.
But don't make the mistake of thinking that such scores will assure you an appointment. It's a competition, after all. You seek a nomination and compete against the other nominees on your slate. You don't know what kind of scores/grades/athletics/leadership/achievements you are competing against. Every year you hear stories of students with perfect or near perfect test score that are not offered an appointment. So no one can tell you whether or not you will get accepted. At best, the good people on this forum can say whether you meet some of the qualifications appointees have. So bump up your test scores, make sure you train for the CFA, and continue with your activities. Practice interviewing before MOC interviews and ALO interview. And just give it your best shot!

As fencersmother will tell you, and ChristCorp too: aim for 800/800. Why aim for 700? That 700 score MIGHT get you in. Might.

You have some things going for you: Grades (though you neglected class rank, which is important if your school ranks). Female (calm down - it is a factor even if others don't admit it). Sport (are you a captain?). JrROTC

Get a job this summer, or better, two. Start a club.

Get those SATs up.

I agree you should shoot for the best, but what helped me raise my 24 act to a 31 was each test just shoot for a few points higher. Took it 5 times over the course of a year.
Also I took lots of practice tests in between those which I found online.

At what elevation to you live? Read up on the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), and be advised that this particular part of Colorado is 7,258 feet above sea level.

Most Cadets do a 1-1/2 mile run in an average time of 10:18 at the USAFA.
If you currently live around 600 to 1,000 feet above sea level, you are going to run about 48 seconds slower for that 1-1/2 miles.
So, take into consideration what your "altitude-adjusted average" is going to be. In other words, take your time for 1-1/2 miles where you live, and add 48 seconds.
If your altitude-adjusted average isn't 10:18 or better, then you have many months to get it there.

Believe me, in Colorado Springs you will feel like a fish out of water (gasping for air) for at LEAST 3 weeks, if not a month.
If you think your CFA is good where you are, you're bound to get to USAFA and say to yourself, "I suck!"
Stronger now will make everything better then.

Virginia is a very competitive state for USAFA. That being said, all posts above point you in the right direction. Forget the ACT. SAT's are the way to go as you score higher on them then the ACT. USAFA superscores (takes the best Math & English scores from all scores submitted). Take lots of practice SAT tests (9 or so). Sit for lots of real ones as well. It's all about the WCS. Break it down, prioritize its components, and attack them. The book The Air Force Academy Candidate Book : How to Prepare, How to Get in, How to Survive by William L. Smallwood helped us. Go get it!...& good luck!

have it in my saved amazon list for DD but guess should get sooner rather than later![emoji41] she is a freshman and we have been grooming her for 2 years already![emoji573][emoji573][emoji574]️

My honest opinion... your SAT is OK. Could be better. I would not send those ACT scores if you have the ability to suppress them.

Your athletics is weaker than most. You don't have a lot of time to improve.

To wrap it up, your SAT is slightly below average and your athletics are significantly sub par. But... you're a girl. That vaults you over lots of boys with better scores and athletics. Not all, but many. The recent press for more females increases your chances. Still, I'd have a good plan B.

Being able to do one pull-up would help a lot.

1 pull up earns more points than maxing out the flex arm hang

my DD is in 9th grade and in CAP and is thrilled she can do 3 so far...

highly recommend CAP for those young enough to be fully involved. Not only is the Billy Mitchell attainable (usafa even lists it on their EC suggestions) but they do monthly PT (at least at DD’s squadron) including run, Push ups, sit ups and pull ups.
