It all depends on who the competition is in any given year, and how many slots that elected rep has available.

Yeah it really depends on what district you live in and how competitive that district is in your given year. What district are you in, if you don’t mind me asking?

NJ-11
I am a BGO that lives in NJ-11 and some of my schools are in NJ-11 and some in NJ-5. NJ-11 is one of the most competitive districts in the state and the competition is tougher than NJ-5. One of my "BGO kids" has an appointment for the class that is about to enter and he is from NJ-5 but I believe that he would be competitive in NJ-11 as well.
.
Earlier in this thread it was asked if the Senators and MOCs coordinated appointments. I serve on the interview panels for Menendez and Booker. Their staffs hold the interviews together as has been the practice in NJ for many years and the staffs DO collaborate/coordinate so nobody should get a nom from both of them. As for the MOCs, I am familiar with the processes for several of them and they do NOT collaborate/coordinate with the Senators.

Thank you for the info.

Anyone in the TX-33 congressional district (Marc Veasey) receive an appointment? Received a principal nom Jan 17th still CPR. Anyone heard any news in this district?

Today, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy’s Nomination Application is supposed to open, May 3, 2018. Is anyone having trouble accessing the Class of 2023 online application portion? It still shows the Class of 2022 Application and the notation, “The due date has passed.”

Same here. Guessing that they just haven’t opened up the portal. My representative hasn’t even updated the page from last year—pain in the butt when we’re all so adamant on getting the ball rolling ASAP, but we probably can’t do much about it.

Hey, I am an applicant at USMA and the other service academies, I was wondering if anyone has interviewed with the Honorable John Lewis ( 5th congressional district of Georgia), what was it like and when should I submit my request for a nomination. It seems as if the information on his website has not been updated so I am unsure whether I should submit or wait. Also, am I supposed to submit the request in person? Any assistance would be nice, thank you!

Hey all, I have a question regarding nominations. I am a 2023 applicant to USAFA and USNA. In MD, you can only apply for a nomination to one service academy from each senator, but I can apply for as many as you want through my congressman. I am not too sure how to go about this. Right now, USAFA is my top choice, USNA is second. Of course, I will be listing both on my congressman’s nomination application, but the senator nominations are different. Because Maryland is such a competitive state for USNA, obtaining a senatorial nomination will be hard. For example, Senator Van Hollen states on his application that, for the class of 2022, 57% of applicant listed USNA and 25% listed USAFA. Should I apply for one nomination to USNA from one senator, and one to USAFA from the other? Or should I apply to both senator nominations for USAFA since it’s my top choice, to give my self the best chance possible? I’m worried it will be near impossible to get a senators nomination to USNA, since I’m competing with everyone in the state and there are a LOT of people who want USNA in MD (of course I’m not saying I am not willing to try or that is is impossible - I’m just worried I have a better chance with listing USAFA). Correct me if I’m wrong, but would I be better off applying to both senator nominations for USAFA since it will be less competitive and it’s my top choice? If it helps, my district, MD-1, is one of the less competitive districts in the state (its still competitive, but not as much as other districts)
I greatly appreciate any help in advance!

I read about this a lot. I’m so glad my own DS didn’t have to deal with this Bc it’s quite the conundrum. I know that doesn’t help advise you, but I find it a fascinating decision to make. I wish more people would come back and address how their approach decision worked out for them.

The one thing i cans advise, is to make SURE you would be happy receiving your number 2 choice, should you receive a nomination there. Good luck!

Senator Nom is always harder to get. I know that Congressman in Maryland can offer more than one Nom to an SA depending on your district and your competitiveness. Personally I would not charge Senator Nom to school that is high in demand. Last year a non URM candidate in Maryland received 2 Noms from his Congressman, USNA and West Point and got no Noms from his Senator. He was competitive for Noms in his District but not competitive enough by the SAs. He’s now happily enrolled in an excellent NROTC Program. So it’s good that his Plan B worked out.

So the outcome may not be the same despite the successful Noms. You just need to have a competitive package in every area.

Just a reminder to all that individual state threads will not be allowed in the forums. You can imagine how 50+ individual threads would clog up each of the forums. All state questions can be asked in this thread. I’ve merged the recent thread here.

Has anyone on here applied for a nomination from Senator Harris or Senator Feinstein from California? I sent my application in via “regular mail” as requested with a self addressed postcard to be sent back as a receipt of my application. I have not received my postcard back yet. Does anyone have experience with the processes of these senators?

Well Feinstein and Harris’s offices have been very busy the last couple of weeks! Were you able to track it? Or did you add delivery confirmation?

I wish I would have. I took it into the post office and told them I needed it to be "regular mail" as specified by the offices but was willing to pay whatever postage necessary to get it there safely . I did not get any tracking on it.

My tracking number was on the receipt. Unless you just put a stamp on it?

My DD just received an email from one of our senators — his staff, actually — saying her nomination interview needed to be rescheduled to November.

The funny part: She actually interviewed with said senator’s panel 12 months ago and got a decision 10 months ago! Yes...last year! (The senator’s decision was “no” because our MOCs coordinate slates, and she received nominations from our rep instead.)

So that, my friends, gives new meaning to “hurry up and wait”! Best wishes to all.

My DS sent his to both Senators Harris and Feinstein and our receipt had tracking automatically generated on it. He has not received his return postcards but it has only been a few days....

So, DS just received notification of interview with representative. It is over college Thanksgiving break. (He was not going to fly home but then we knew representative wanted in-person while senators more than willing to Skype). However, the representative’s liasion is offering 2 chances... our rep and the connecting district (she is for both reps). Anyone else have this opportunity? Of course DS will take both chances even if it limits his vacation time. Our rep provided a nom last year but ultimately qualified not selected for USMMA.
