Hi all,

Do most people buy the optional peripheral computer package? It is an extra $400ish, and comes with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, inkjet printer, surge suppresor, and a docking station. However, it doesn't give any more details about this. I understand that if i bought this package, i could always take it to the tech place and have things upgraded or fixed easier; however, I am also thinking that I could buy a really great monitor for around $100, a printer for $70, and mouse/keyboard for $50, and i dont even know if i would need a docking station.

Also, does anyone have a rough estimate on how much plebes will actually receive into their bank accounts per month? By Firstie year, does it ever reach around $900 a month like some brochures say?

Amount varies according to various choices - computer and internet choices, initial deposit, etc. Can't find the target amounts for each class right now, but plebes normally get about $200/month. DS got $200, now as a Yuk getting $250. - we paid initial $2,000 deposit rather than borrow from USMA, but chose a lot of the extras like ipad, SGLI, etc.

No, Firsties do not get $900/month - I think it is about $500.

However, once expenses are deducted and monthly allowance given, the excess goes into their cadet account. When that account reaches a certain level, cadets can "top off" and transfer the excess to their personal bank account.
 
We bought the optional package. Like others said, one less thing to worry about. Will be a box waiting during reorgy week.

Yes, it will be one of the stops squad leaders march the plebes through.

You can get the same items through Amazon, but it is much more convenient to get it through USMA - finding time to pick up packages at the mail room is tough for a plebe during reorgy.
 
The dock is huge for morale because you're not constantly disconnecting and reconnecting your stuff every time you want to take your computer somewhere.
 
My DS got the package except the iPad. Important thing is the iPad has to be in its original box when you turn in on Rday.
He gets $200/month now (plebe year). If you don't pay the $2000 in advance, $100 will be taken out of your monthly salary until you pay it off.

The iPad is not an included option this year. It states that we need to bring our own if we want one, so it doesn’t talk about packaging. I just bought an open box Ipad, so I’m banking on that. That should be okay, I hope?
