Been searching the forums on the indoc swimming test. Can anybody point us to the actual requirements?

As I recall, it is the standard Navy swim test. Swimming during INDOC is not a big deal. Later in plebe year, they have to take swimming class. Several Plebes in my DD class had trouble with that class. If you are not a good swimmer, it might be worthwhile to take a couple lessons. You do not have to be a star swimmer, but you do have to be able to tread water comfortably and do a decent crawl.

Hopefully someone more current than me can answer, but many years ago during indoc they were simply basic tests to identify who needed remedial swim training. You take two swim classes plebe year, basics swim and aquatic survival, but you need to be a moderately proficient swimmer to complete those. If you were not it was identified during indoc and you underwent remedial swim training. Check out the catalog on the website. It describes the classes there.
From the 2017-2018 Catalog:
"Non-Swimmers: It is recommended applicants learn to swim before entering the Academy. Fourth classmen must demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards using two basic strokes and 15 minutes of flotation. This requirement must be fulfilled prior to a Midshipman’s first shipboard training period."

From what I understand, they take 2 swim classes. Easy swimming. I think 200 yards any stroke and they have to jump off the 5 meter diving board. 2nd year is a bit tougher and they have to jump off the 10 meter board. My DD is a varsity swimmer so she validated, but said it was easy for most and the instructors are good. She had taught swimming for years. Harder part might be jumping from the board.

The Indoc swim test is a 50 meter swim and treading water for I think 10 minutes.

Basic Swimming and Aquatic Survival are the classes where the requirements get more stringent and you complete the Navy and STCW requirements.

My son said that the four or five swim lessons he had with a coach prior to KP were well worth the investment. He was an AZ type swimmer and learned some techniques which helped him do well with the required swim strokes etc.

It is a joke; if you can swim, you will be fine. Just be ready for basic swim and aquatic survival that is when swimming matters.
