My son just graduated this Friday. In the morning he commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the Air Force. My wife who wasnt crazy that he joined AFRotc or that he is going AD cried like baby. It was a very nice ceremony where we got to pin on his 2nd LT bars. It was followed by the TRI Commissioning ceremony that included the newly commissioned 2nd Lt from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. Another very nice cermony. Luckily my wife didnt cry that time. This was followed by a night graduation ceremony. It was a long day. Thanks to everyone who answered my questions and to those who posted information everyone could use. He will be going to Vance AFB as part of the Undergraduated Pilot program for 54 weeks which is going to be a whole new adventure for him.
I enjoy being on the forum, so i will probably continue visiting. The funny part is that I enjoy reading the questions and posts regarding the academies as much as I like reading about ROTC.

Who made out like a bandit was a Sargeant who flew in from New Mexico. He was part of their Rotc for the last four years but have been transferred at some point during the school year. Of the 26 newly commissioned officers, I would say at least half of them chose him for their first salute. He probably had at least 15 silver dollars in his pocket by the end of the day. At $20 a pop, that is about $300. I told him to stay away from water as he would sink like a rock if he fell in. Nice guy and it was nice of him to fly in. I dont know if he had to pay his own way to Indiana, but it was nice of him to take the time. Besides the salute, he gave each one a little piece of advice, a handshake and a hug. Honestly, by the 10th time he went up the stage, we all started laughing with my wife saying he should stay on stage for the rest of the event. After saluting the last guy, everyone gave him a nice round of applause

Congrats to your son and also to you, Humey. We are heading to USAFA this weekend for our sons commissioning and graduation. He is also heading to UPT.
when is he going and where? Congratulations to him and your family.

Congratulations to your son and to you and your wife for raising such a fine young man!

I have really appreciated reading your posts the last few months because I’ve felt that your son has gone through much of what my son will be going through. In the Fall, my son will be attending Western Michigan University as an Aviation Flight Science student as well as joining the AFROTC program with the hopes of getting a rated pilot slot in 4 years.
Please keep us updated on his time in UPT.

Good luck to him and I hope he enjoys it. I would recommend he join Arnold Air Society if they have one on his campus. I would recommend he get a full workup on his eyes this summer by a Ophthalmologist to make sure that any issues with his eyes wont bite him in the butt in the future

Congratulations to all the newly commissioned or soon to be commissioned LTs and their families.
Now begins the next new and exciting chapter of your lives.
