DS just texted us. Found out that he failed the CFA. He is very disappointed since he was fairly confident he had passed.

70ft-bball throw
13-pull ups
9.1 shuttle run
Max- Situps
52-push ups
6:36 mile

Guessing he was light on push-ups? He will take it again in 2 weeks at NASS. Roller coasters of ups and downs has started.

There has to be a mistake.

Your DS is well above average in several events and missed average just by a few reps of SU.

I don’t think missing average for SU would make him fail the entire thing.

Even on the regular Army APFT chart, the passing number of reps would be 42 for his age group.

Now I’m worried about DD.

He is very disappointed mostly because he thought he had prepared for it. He emailed his FFR and was told that it sounded like a pass to him. He also spoke with his RC and he is going to look into it for him. If he did fail I hope they let him know where he is lacking so he can work on it.

My DD got an email. Beside each score, they put an asterisk if that event is at risk.

I’m sure your DS got the same email and would indicate which event is at risk for him. It’s just baffling that he would be at risk for any event. There has to be a mistake.

Google “USMA CFA instructions.” You’ll find a PDF that lists max and averages. Your DS is above average except for SU, where he’s 2 below average. Seems strange that this constitutes a total fail.

My DS just emailed me his CFA score also. Your DS’ scores sound passing to me - did he provide the total score? My DS email had each sub score and a then a total.

Turns out there was a mistake in timing the mile that affected a good number of people. His sheet has him at +10mins. They are aware of the problem and will hopefully get it fixed. This is going to be a long year, ha.

I made a mistake in my reply to Elvis.

I meant to say he missed PU (not SU) by only 2. He maxed SU.

I don’t think he failed. There must be an error, I passed my CFA with with these stats:
80 ft basketball throw, 11 pull-ups, 8.5 shuttle run, 80 sit-ups, 65 push-ups, 6:10 mile. Ask for them to recheck everything because I am a skeptic that he failed. Above 50 push-ups should’ve been sufficient, excellent? No, but it should’ve been at least passing.

Glad to hear there was an error!

DS forwarded his stat email from from SLE and when I compared it to your DS I couldn’t figure out how your DS didn’t pass, as he had better mile time and sit ups.

Our DS was relieved he had passed but hopes to improve at NASS as well.

He was very happy there was a mistake. He explained there was a running clock and by the time his group got the the start line the clock was at +/- 5 mins. When he crossed they wrote down the time on the clock, not the time minus the 5 mins. He is unsure how they are going to correct so he is just looking forward to NASS to take it again.

Where do you typically run the mile at SLE at West Point? On the track, open road, a loop, down and back, etc?

My DD has remained in contact with a couple SLE CC who are attending NASS week.

They told her their CFA will be administered today in the afternoon after a morning of a tough PT session. Can’t tell if they’re exaggerating, but that’s what they relayed to her.

That’s what we did at NASS session 1.
