I was just wondering if we are allowed to connect personal devices like cell phones on the wifi.
Thank you

Who knows, current plebes chime in.

Happily, there are no plebes at the moment! Anywhere, so far as I know.
I agree it’s good to hope for a current cadet or recent grad to comment.

My 2021 DS said that plebes got their phones back a few weeks after Indoc, but were supposed to leave them in their rooms and not use them. He said you can apply for a BYOD (bring your own device) connection to the WIFI after plebe year, but doesn't know how likely it is to be approved. Basically, you'll be "off the grid" on personal devices for the majority of your time as a plebe.

I am a bit confused by this topic. As a plebe, you will use your laptop for homework and get phone privileges once a week. What do you need an iPad for? You will not have time for games or social media or movies. You will be way too busy studying.

So no connecting an iPad to the WiFi?

If you don't get access to the BYOD then the only other open wifi on campus in at the Navy Federal. And in order to use that you have to be right near it on zero deck or just about right above it in Jones Hall to get connectivity.

Meh, I messed around with social media a lot as a plebe. Back in '15 iPads were definitely not allowed for plebes, and they were pretty strict on no media privileges, And our doors were open 0600-2200 daily. So it was hard, but now they've relaxed them, so why not.

Good practice to get used to being at sea. . . .

I just got back... Did 8 months. I wish I could've just stayed out there.

I remember the feeling. When I got back from my second Sea Year and was looking at 18 months at the Zoo. . . I almost drug up, got my QMED card and went back out. . but I am glad that I did not.

The school provides an ethernet connection on a closed network for plebes for their school formatted laptop computer. There is no wifi available for personal devices. Plebes who try to use a wifi router in their room face punishment. The cell/data on campus for cell phones is also spotty.
