Applying regular admission with only junior transcript?

I still need to call my school's registrar, but last year my semester grades finalized after January 15th. This upcoming senior year I will apply to CGA, however I'm leaning towards early action primarily because I doubted I will have first semester of senior year transcript in time for the regular admission deadline. Is this a good decision and what are your thoughts on EA? Is a SAT score of ~1400 sufficient for early action?

I think so. Your SAT looks fine for Early Action. Would be great if they are 700+ on both sections. You can still apply to regular action without Senior grade. About 50% of the Class is selected from EA. But be aware if not selected in EA I think most are not deferred to RD but given rejection. So apply EA if you think the rest of your Package is strong.

Not necessarily given a rejection if not selected for EA. DD applied EA for 2022 hoping for good news before Christmas. She was not rejected, but placed on waitlist and we had to wait until June 1 - long time to “patiently” wait. She was not selected off waitlist either. She is planning on beefing up her application and reapplying again for 2023. She has a challenging first semester of college planned for the fall. As a college transfer student, EA is not an option.

I know people may disagree with me, but I don't see the point of EA. If your file is good enough to receive an early action appointment (assuming the competition is better), then it should be good enough in regular action. However your file may not be competitive for early action, but may be competitive for regular action. So why risk going against a the assumed stronger slate of candidates in early action. EA appointments are offered as early as November with all receiving an answer by 24 DEC. In the end that is only a few months before the RA offers that come in as early as the end of February.

Yah all true. I believe EA is really useful for those who choose USCGA as their first choice school and choose not to deal with applying to other schools with time and money. You really can use that extra time to focus on school, learning, and to give your self time to do things before committing to an SA. Also EA gives you an excellent choice and peace of mind if you decide to pursue more college Apps. Unless you know you have a very strong package for USCGA, you shouldn't apply EA. Still CGA does take 50% of their incoming class via EA which translates to 1 in 3 get admitted 36% via EA vs. about 10% admissions rate for RA. Admissions rate to USCGA is similar to USAFA, about 15% overall.

I don't know where you got that January 15th is too late for a transcript. My DS was at college and his first semester college transcript didn't get there until about then. He received his appointment is late February. My DS applied EA out of high school and did not get in. We were told by a Coast Guard officer who recently taught there that he probably would have earned an appointment if he had applied RA.
