“Space Force?”

I try to eschew reading anything written by anyone who refers to the POTUS by just their last name.
That has been my stance since I was old enough to vote, no matter who the POTUS was and whether or not I voted for him.

Hmm...It is pretty standard protocol to refer to the President by the full title of "President XXX" the first time in the body of an article then as either "Mr. XXX" or just "XXX" in the remainder of the article. Headlines are supposed to be short and regularly omit the title or omit the name and just list the title.

I read just "Trump" in the headline and got all curmudgeonly. Sorry, OP! ;)

My thoughts are this: If the SecDef doesn't like it, I don't like it. CHAOS is The Man. :)
As a matter of fact, didn't the USAF suggest a "Space Corps" as part of the Air Force some time ago, and the President didn't like it then?
"Space Force" sounds just as silly as "Space Corps" to me, but I like the idea of taking initiatives to reduce space clutter and reduce satellite collisions. Heck, NORAD routinely tracks nearly 18,000 things in orbit right now, and some estimates say that there may be over 30,000 pieces of junk up there in low and high Earth orbit.

The AF didn't put forward the idea previously. (They fight it every time.) Previously it was put forward by a "Space Commission" chartered by the Congress in 2000. The Commission chairman was Donald Rumsfeld prior to him being named SecDef (for the 2nd time) under Pres Bush (43)

We will have to see where this goes. No one is planning to don their space suit and scarf to jump into their X-wing fighter just yet. Space is a pretty technical field. It is it’s own “medium” as is land, sea, subsurface maritime, and air. It has both tactical and strategic elements. The physics of Kepler operate a little differently and add some spice to Newton.
 
My USMA 2022 DD went to Space Trek Camp between her 9th and 10th grade years. They built and launched a mini-satellite. Hopefully that will qualify her to join Space Force some day. All those space and science fiction movies I watched in the late 70's will finally pay off. Anybody up for a little Moonraker space battle scene?

I often wonder about those great minds of the past, and what they would think about what we know today - and how much we still need to figure out.

Of course, dilithium crystals will be a big help.
