Rollie Carts at USNA

…...and all unofficial WP social media is having a ball with it!

That is where I saw some pics but am trapped in the car on the way to USMA.

My Navy retired husband shook his head when I told him the carts were back! He’s old school and enlisted.

Thanks for the update Nemo. I was hoping construction was still a factor.

Why does the construction mean that they can't just carry their gear. That is what I have seen done at another SA. Maybe you need to be there and see it in person to understand.

It’s a half mile from alumni to Bancroft. They’re carrying bags that the average plebe could fit into, filled to the brim with tons of stuff. Combine that with the temps creeping up into the mid 90s, you’d be looking at a lot of broken plebes or heat exhaustion cases on day 1. The carts are silly but better than the alternative.

I wish they would issue a sea bag and then just wear them back to Bancroft. Then again I still use the bag I got on I day to haul my suits to the dry cleaners. I can tell it’s the I Day bag because it was so slanted and horribly written. Plebes don’t meet detailers until Bancroft now. New 2ndLts and Ensigns man most the stations along with civilian employees and medical personnel. ‘Back in the day’ we had detailers moving us through stations and ‘encouraging’ us along the way. That might have contributed to my panic in writting my last name!

Alumni is also operating on really tight time lines. The last plebes were not done until 1630, which gives them just enough time to get to Bancroft to drop their stuff and get outside for the oath.

It would have been a nightmare if the plebes had to hold with their bags across the yard.

It's supposed to be in the high 90's at West Point on R-day (Monday). The Army bags with gear are every bit as large and heavy at the Navy bags. Who wishes to establish the betting odds that those new cadets won't get wheeled carts, or private Butler's to carry their bags?

Go Army!! Beat the "Cart Kids"!!

Different systems, different requirements. Getting 800 plebes through Alumni and to T-Court in time for the oath requires speed. There is no time in the schedule to have the plebes struggle to carry the bags halfway across the yard.

My husband still has his sea bag and it has been carried to many camps by our kids.

We are at USMA for Air Assault graduation and a very short visit with our son before he reports tomorrow for CFT2.

The temps look awful!

Brovol,
Daughter reports on Monday and has two HS classmates that reported to USNA yesterday. She found humor in the pics as she knows what awaits her. I think I will photoshop a USNA football player on the back of one of the luggage racks and bring as a rollout to the Army vs Navy game in December when Army makes it 3 in a row!

Do it @NovaGrad !!
Even after reading the explanation for the wheelie carts, I'm still perplexed as to why fit young men and women need them because the same fit young adults don't need them at USMA. And they surely do carry them for quite a while at WP - while wearing very fashionable shorts, black socks and low quarters - the shoes that evidently gave Navy football players some trouble.

All the pictures I've seen from R-day have them carrying sea bags. Sea bags are not as large, cannot carry near as much stuff, and are definitely easier to carry.

We shouldn't give them such a hard time about the carts. After all, there is construction... and lots of stuff to carry... and heat...and time constraints...and the possibility someone might get overheated...

It's all in good fun. As WP fans we have to take our cracks when we get the chance. :tank:

Now, onto those sweet tennis shoes they get to wear all the time. :)

My only question to this is, Why would anyone be a WP Fan? [emoji23][emoji23]
